Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) is an Anabaptist Christian university, located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In 2008, CMU was granted membership in the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC). CMU offers a variety of academic programs and a choice of educational settings, which include our Shaftesbury Campus, Menno Simons College (on the campus of The University of Winnipeg), and the Outtatown School of Discipleship – an eight-month program of cross-cultural study, service, and faith formation.
The School of Music at Canadian Mennonite University invites applications for a position in Music at the rank of Assistant Professor, for an initial three-year tenure-track appointment beginning in July 2013. This appointment will emphasize theory and composition with the possibility for complementary areas such as choral performance, church music, and music education. The appointment is subject to final budgetary approval.
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Music Theory or D.M.A. in Music Performance with considerable experience and expertise in theory and composition; ABD applicants will be considered. Evidence of scholarly/professional performance activity is required, and the candidate must also demonstrate evidence of successful teaching and a commitment to artistic and professional growth.
Teaching responsibilities will be in undergraduate music theory, composition, and other responsibilities according to the successful applicant’s areas of expertise and the needs of the department. Candidates may be asked to include a teaching and/ or performance demonstration as part of the selection process. Additional strengths in at least one of the following areas are desired: theory pedagogy, music technology, choral performance, church music, and music education.
