M.Sc. and Ph.D. Positions: Plant/insect interactions of insect pathogenic fungi that are also endophytes. NSERC-funded M.Sc. and Ph.D. positions are available in the Department of Biological Sciences at Brock University (St. Catharines, ON). The focus of the project is the interaction of an insect pathogenic fungus that is also a plant endophyte. We have previously shown that this fungus acts as a conduit in the translocation of insect derived nitrogen to the plant host. We have shown that plants gain other benefits during this interaction, such as resistance to plant pathogens. We are interested in students that wish to gain a diverse array of techniques in a multidisciplinary approach that ask questions of this tritrophic interaction between fungus, plant and insect. Various projects are available and can include a combination of techniques in plant biology, ecology, microbiology and molecular biology. Potential start dates are May 2014 or Sept. 2014 with a possibility of a pre-registration research assistantship (i.e., in the summer of 2014). Candidates must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents. The successful applicant should possess a strong transcript (at least a B+ GPA) and prior research experience either at the undergraduate or M.Sc. level. To apply, please send your CV along with a cover letter indicating your research experience and interests to Dr. Mike Bidochka
