Position: Early Childhood Educator – Maternity Leave Term

Reporting to the Supervisor, the Early Childhood Educator will provide support and direct care to children under 6, including special needs children. The Early Childhood Educator will provide early learning experiences which will stimulate and develop the children’s intellectual, physical and emotional growth. This will be done in accordance with the British Columbia, Early Learning Framework.

Job Duties:

  • Plans, carries out and evaluates developmentally appropriate activities and experiences for children
  • Identifies the abilities, interests and needs of children and develops individualized and group curriculum based on these
  • Reports on progress, behaviours and other issues related to children
  • Participates in preschool planning and evaluation of programs offered by the organization
  • Administers first aid and medication in accordance with Club policy and procedures and licensing regulations

  • Early Childhood Education Care Certificate or Diploma
  • Valid Province of BC License to Practice as an Early Childhood Educator
  • Current First Aid (Licensing approved)
  • CPR Certification
  • Class 5 Driver's License
  • Must successfully pass a Criminal Records Check


  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills
  • Well-developed skills in planning and implementing programs for 0-5 year old children, in accordance with the Early Learning Framework
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise children 0-5 years
  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills
  • Demonstrated team approach while implementing the “Primary Caregivers Approach” as outlined in the BGCCVI Staff Orientation Manual and Parent Handbook.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the Early Learning Framework

Salary: $15.50 per hour

Hours: Term – Full-Time (35 – 40 hours per week)

Terms: Maternity Leave (anticipated end date February, 2015)
