A unique opportunity is available for an Electrician to be responsible for skilled technical work in the maintenance, repair and upgrading of building systems components and any related installations. This may include performing a variety of maintenance and installation tasks according to established schedules, methods and procedures as well as identifying any malfunctions and undertaking routine repairs or recommending those of greater complexity at the new RCMP “E” Division Headquarters in Surrey. This position reports to the Electrical Supervisor.

You will be required to maintain and operate physical plant and building systems used in lighting, heating, ventilating and air conditioning of the buildings as well as assist in the implementation of a preventative maintenance program for the physical plan. In this role, you will carry out electrical repairs and cleaning of electrical components and equipment and prepare records related to the work. Additionally, you will operate, maintain and adjust control systems; carry out portable appliance testing (PAT) adhering to the Canadian Electrical code legislation and BC amendments; maintain and test fire alarms systems and maintain primary and secondary distribution systems including high voltage. As the Maintenance Technician IV – Electrician, you will install and maintain existing fixtures and components; provide advice on installations and fixture upgrades; inspect, repair and/or replace components of existing lighting fixtures; and respond to electrical emergency calls.

Preference will be given to those who have a valid B.C. driver’s license, previous experience in day-to-day building operations as well as knowledge of material systems, methods and equipment used in facility maintenance work. Being qualified for Field Safety Representative (FSR) would also be an asset. Knowledge of occupational hazards, safe working practices and applicable regulations in Facility Management in accordance with Work Safe Regulations is a must.
