ABOUT BOUNDLESS - Boundless is an outdoor adventure high school set on 600 stunning acres along the Madawaska River in eastern Ontario. We take students on ambitious outdoor adventures, specializing in whitewater; and exploring the remote rivers of the Ottawa Valley. In the fall, we run an adventure-based boarding school. And in the winter, our students can be found X-country skiing, snowshoeing, swinging on ropes courses, and consuming insane amounts of baked goods.

But excelling in the outdoors is beside the point.

Our focus is on having students emerge from Boundless proud of their accomplishments, more connected to others, and having discovered new and lasting things about their abilities. They earn high school credits while doing so.

The people that come here are truly amazing. Some bring some unique challenges.

The majority of our participants are older teenagers. They arrive here with great zeal, sometimes with an attitude or a special need, and engage in some truly extraordinary learning journeys. They buy in quickly, and thrive in a world where their team flourishes and are emboldened by their accomplishments.

Our adult clients come in the winter and spring, and present serious mental illness. Other adults arrive with the burden of having acquired brain injuries. Seeing these folks succeeding in the rapids or rappelling down a wall is wonderful enough. But watching them coming out of their shells, as they feel an exquisite sense of belonging, is an awesome thing to behold.

All new staff, typically aged 21-30 (average 24), join Boundless in the winter months as “winterns”, a three month work term that begins early January and ends in late March. This is an all-expense paid gig, and winterns also earn a $4,000 stipend. Please visit www.boundlessadventures.org to learn more.

About half of winterns are newly graduated teachers, and the other half come from a wide range of backgrounds, including camps, social work initiatives and other programs that work with adolescents. The average age of a new staff is 24.
