This job is better suited for college students. Not a life time career.

Horrible experience.
(customer service rep) former employee (Former Employee), Killeen TexasMarch 17, 2014
Pros: free coffee
Cons: the training was horrible.
On the phone with parents, students, and instructors. Very impatient customers. It could have been a good place to work, if we had the right training material and system. What we learned in class did not apply to the job once we started on the floor, the system needed to be updated.

Over worked (Former Employee), Killeen, TexasMarch 6, 2014
Pros: competative pay
Cons: everything else
Blackboard is a great company, without the call centers. As an agent, you cannot get a day off. Not even for a much needed doctor's appointment. There is no moral and the management team...well, no comment. The HR office does not keep anything confidential. After a while, you have to worry about who they are letting go next, will it be your department? – more... Work you until they no longer need you and just let you go, without notice or opportunity to work in another department. There is a lot of backstabbing in the work place as well. – less

Manager (Current Employee), Washington, DCFebruary 16, 2014
Pros: mission, smart motivated co-workers, shared ideals, flexibility
Cons: extremely difficult to get promoted or find a steady career path
For me, the most important aspect of Blackboard is that we create an safe and accessible online environment where people can communicate and collaborate so they may learn and grow.

Operations Supervisor (Current Employee), Killeen, TXJanuary 28, 2014
Pros: ability to learn different areas of the business
Cons: having the feeling of being set in one position without advancement opportunities
Working with a prestige client is enjoyable. Client interactions are great and working with them and Blackboard provides an opportunity to learn more about educational services that brings colleges and universities into the world of modern technology at its best; as well as apply what I have learned in school. Managing my team was interesting with the – more... different cultures and personalities, but ended up being a great collaboration. – less

I love that I have an opportunity to work on multiple projects. My favorite part is working with PM, OPS and other teams on resolving difficult tickets and meeting deliverables. Every day brings me new knowledge and experience.

Pros: store on site
Cons: too many to name
You are only a number with Blackboard. They treat you like they could care less. The hardest part of the job is putting up with the higher ups.

Worked to death
Marketing person (Former Employee), Washington, DCOctober 3, 2013
Pros: work from home
Cons: no work life balance, poor compensation
The title pretty much sums it up, worked to death and no advancement, no investment in employees. Just work, work, work. Then lay people off and those left get work, work, work.

Unorganized Mess
CSR (Former Employee), Somerset, KYAugust 7, 2013
I only worked there for a short few weeks and that was long enough for me. The trainer I had was a wonderful person who provided my group with the materials made available to her however it in no way prepares you for working on the phones. After two short weeks of training I was thrown on the phones during rush season and had to deal with a supervisor – more... who didn't want to supervise. In all actuality she had no idea what she was doing and did not have the knowledge to be leading the department.

I had to listen to inappropriate discussions about sexual encounters for almost 6 straight hours one day and that was the end of my journey at Blackboard.

I am used to a professional work setting and Blackboard is anything but. I used Blackboard as a filler job after I was laid off and thankfully I have found a position in a professional work setting. I would recommend Blackboard as a temporary job but definitely not a permanent one! – less

Customer Service Representative (Former Employee), Somerset, KYJuly 23, 2013
A typical day at Blackboard is just getting to know families and it is great to be able to dicuss a product that you know is going to help these families with furthering education and making sure everyone is happy. I was able to learn how to operate phones , making outgoing and receiving incoming calls, I operated different office equipment , and took – more... notes as well as record calls through a ticketing system. – less

Excellent co-workers and management, and I enjoyed my job.
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee), Somerset, KYJune 22, 2013
Pros: excellent management; good insurance
Cons: moving from department to department just within a couple of months.
I enjoyed working for Blackboard Inc. I was able to provide customer care to students' who called with questions regarding their financial aid, student account, as well as any general questions that they may have had about the college they were attending. My supervisors and management were excellent and willing to help in any way possible. Co-workers – more... were also willing to help with any questions that the CSR's had. I very much enjoyed the job and I what I enjoyed most was providing excellent care and service to students', in order to direct and inform them on the actions that they needed to take to resolve any issues that they were having. – less
