About BiblioCommons

BiblioCommons is the developer of a suite of hosted “Software as a Service” solutions that deliver an integrated “social discovery” experience to the online customers of public libraries. The heart of our offering is BiblioCore, which replaces all search and account management functionality of the library’s traditional – more... “Online Public Access Catalog” (OPAC).

We didn’t set out to create a better online catalog. Our origins were as a non-profit, online youth literacy initiative. But along the way we discovered the power of the local OPAC as a gateway to broad participation and engagement.

Our goal

To help public libraries deliver the same kind of rich discovery and community connection experiences online that the library has always delivered in its branches -- all built around the heart of the library: its collections.

In delivering on this promise, we are convinced that public libraries can collectively emerge at the center of online discovery and connection for everything books, movies and music.

The key?

A common platform that aggregates the shared expertise, opinions and recommendations of staff and customers alike across all libraries, and integrates those contributions back into the local catalog in intelligent ways. The communities of even the largest library systems are small by comparison with those of the online environments that library customers the world over engage with daily to discover, keep track of, and respond to books, movies and music. But the combined community of public library customers is huge.

Our solutions

Our solutions are now live with public library systems large and small, across Canada, the United States and in New Zealand and Australia, to broad acclaim. – less
