Food Service Supervisor’s Responsibilities

- Staff switches
- Shift replacements
- Call in
Check and Print Referrals
Diet list/ nourishment list
- Update from Dietitian’s Report
- Seating changes
- Distribute weekly to all meal/ snack areas i.e. all carts, serveries, production areas etc.
- Update/ Print labels
- Update Seating plans

Staff Discipline
- Dual role with DM
Daily Audits
- Menu
- Temperature
- Refrigerators- items dated, labeled, rotated
- Food preparation (proper procedure being upheld)
- Food tasting
- Food pulls
Supervisor/ Monitoring Rounds
- Check in with cooks
- Daily scrum (meeting) with both shifts (am and pm) (changes to menu, shorted items, production changes, outbreaks, general info)
- Staff assistance (food products, production sheets)
- Mealtime supervision
Month End Department Updates
- Temperature Sheets
- Table rotation for meal service
- Cleaning List
- Nourishment Inventory sheets
Weekly department audit
Staff disciplined to be reported to DM and acted upon accordingly
Daily discussions between DM and FSS


  • Must be a member of the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a long term care setting and in management role
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS)
  • Experience with Synergy dietary software would be an asset
  • Passion for their job and life in general, staff and residents
  • Have to love food
