POLITICS-FAVORITISM.
Manufacturing Technician (Former Employee), Los ANgeles, CaFebruary 20, 2014
Pros: pay, benefits
Cons: politics, supervisors, favoritisim.
It's a good pay job and good benefits. Lot's of politics and favoritism going on. You will find good co-workers and bad ones. It's better to keep to yourself and not make friends at all. Easy job to perform, hard to move up if you don't know anyone of higher position; unless you are lucky to have a "real professional" supervisor who appreciates and – more... acknowledges your work performance. If other wise, you will have it hard. – less

Challenging work environment, Global exposure and opportunity
Sr. Director (Current Employee), Northern IllinoisFebruary 18, 2014
Pros: great pay and benefits, commuter support for city dwellers, lots of job mobility
Cons: big company challenges, constant quality system work, not an innovative envirionment
Baxter is a large company with great opportunities and with that comes many challenges. If you are someone who thrives on challenges, this is your company. By stepping up and taking on those challenges you create your own success. Baxter is great for moving around in a division and between divisions. The strategy is sound enough and the performance – more... of the company strong enough to allow you to spend a few years and make a career of Baxter. I know many people who have had very successful careers at Baxter. I recommend you talk to folks on the inside of the unit you are pursuing before you go in to make sure you can assimilate that culture. – less

Pros: great products, good benefits, lots of corporate structure and initiatives, interface with high level managers
Cons: competitive salery on the lower end of market, retaining talent of workforce/tenure
It is great to work for a company that truly has the patient in mind. We make life-saving drugs and devices. If you are an employee that is accountable, drives continuous improvement and works well in cross-functional teams, you can move up and will be given opportunities to build many different skill sets.

Low wages, bad training, depressing atmosphere
Senior PCT - Advanced (Former Employee), Elkhart, INFebruary 12, 2014
Pros: benefits are good and the stock is doing well
Cons: don't expect to be appreciated or rewarded. do expect to be criticized
Training program needs improvement. Trainers lord their status over new hires and refuse to give out information unless the new person grovels. If you complain, the managers will say that it's your fault for not showing enough initiative. Training supervisors get paid a lot of money to do nothing at all.

Managers are ineffective and highly critical. – more... Very little appreciation is given, even to top performing workers. This is a culture of negativity and punishment.

Low morale is a constant problem.

Some BioLifes will make you take your lunch within an hour of punching in and will not give you even a 5 min bathroom break for the rest of the day. If you complain, you could be fired. – less

Pros: benefits, employment advancement, good money
Cons: worked 6 days a week every week. mandatory overtime
It was a challengeing fast pace work place but was a overall fun place to work. My co workers and I become great friends and tend to even meet up outside of the work area. We would challenge each other to who could fill the most bags by the end of the night. I got a job award and was awarded a handler job which left me to run the line on most nights. – more... It had its ups and downs but overall great job! – less

Production oriented company
Filling Operator (Current Employee), Marion, NCJanuary 22, 2014
Pros: paid vacations and holidays
Cons: working 6 days and short breaks
When I first started at Baxter it was VERY overwhelming. Going into a high production yielding company can be that way however. the trainers and supervision do give you the time you need to catch up to speed and learn your job very well before they leave you to it by yourself.

An Interesting and varied company with good staff but strong top-down culture
Purchasing Category Manager (Former Employee), Newbury, ENGJanuary 20, 2014
Pros: pleasant head office environment, reasonable renumeration.
Cons: no company car
A typical day at work: Support of other departmental staff in their procurement needs such as to guide them through an appropriate procurement exercise or negotiate a purchase price and Ts&Cs. Leading specific procurement projects within my spend categories - some periods spent at manufacturing sites.

A key learning point was the need to understand – more... stakeholder priorities and act with flexibility to deliver solutions with immediate and easily understood benefits so as to build personal and departmental influence.

Management was professional but strongly constrained by top-down direction.

Baxter recruits professional, highly qualified and strongly motivated people and both management and co-worker standards reflected this.

The hardest part of the job was to implement change of long-standing incumbent suppliers who had built strong personal business relations.

The most enjoyable part of the job: Leading procurement for large CAPEX projects - typically at manufacturing and distribution sites. – less
