AT CAMP MAPLE LEAF

Located on Jacob’s Island, Pigeon Lake in the Kawarthas, Banyan’s Camp Maple Leaf is a residential summer camp experience for kids who would benefit the most from growing and learning while having fun, enjoying nature, making new friends and lasting memories. Camp Maple Leaf receives referrals from a range of social service organizations including the Canadian Armed Forces, Children’s Aid Societies, Big Brother/Big Sister, Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs, etc.
The duration of this summer position is from June 22, 2013 to August 25, 2013. Applicants must love camp, enjoy working with young people and have strong leadership skills. Lengthy stretches of 12 hour days.
The Maintenance Assistant receives accommodations at Camp, all meals, a competitive salary and a fantastic summer experience!
The Maintenance Staff person will be able to assist the Maintenance Supervisor with boat
transportation, grounds keeping and various building and repair projects around the site.
Assist with deliveries (supplies) to and from the island; food, lumber, waste
Assist in keeping the interior and exterior buildings clean and presentable
Maintain environmentally sound practices in all daily jobs
Ensure that all campsites and main campfire pits are equipped with appropriate firewood, water and sand buckets
Report any damages or repairs needed to the Maintenance Supervisor
Require to wear proper safety equipment including safety boots
Must abide by all Health and Safety Regulations
General cabin clean-up and participate in camp program where possible
Preferred graduate or recent graduate from a trades program.
A background in the use of small equipment and tools is beneficial.
Criminal Records/Vulnerable Sector Check required two (2) months prior to commence of work term at staff’s own expense
Willingness to learn new skills.
Current first-aid certificate, Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC), valid Ontario Drivers License and a good driving record.
Understanding of occupational safety concerns, health board regulations, and WHIMS standards
Prior experience in residential Camping preferred
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Outgoing, good communication skills with a willingness / openness to learn new skills, practises and procedures within a residential setting (long work shifts)
