Located on Jacob’s Island, Pigeon Lake in the Kawarthas, Banyan’s Camp Maple Leaf is a residential summer camp experience for kids who would benefit the most from growing and learning while having fun, enjoying nature, making new friends and lasting memories. Camp Maple Leaf receives referrals from a range of social service organizations including the Canadian Armed Forces, Children’s Aid Societies, Big Brother/Big Sister, Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs, etc.
The duration of this summer position is from June 22, 2013 to August 25, 2013. Applicants must love camp, enjoy working with young people and have strong leadership skills. Lengthy stretches of 12 hour days dealing with Campers with high behaviour needs.
The Administrative Assistant receives accommodations at Camp, all meals, a competitive salary and a fantastic summer experience!
Administrative support to Summer Camp operational areas such as finance, human resources, property maintenance, information technology, camp,
Maintains standard office policy and practice, ensuring that information is received, relayed and filed in a confidential, efficient and effective manner and that there is a sufficient monitoring process to ensure appropriate and timely follow up.
Manage incoming calls and emails, manage mail and social media, typing and filing support
Assist Health Coordinator with Camper medication documentation
Other administrative duties as required
As a Camp Maple Leaf representative, act as a bus monitor to and from drop off and pick-up locations
As a member of the Camp’s operational team, support all Staff during programs by being actively involved in Camper activities and providing additional supervision of Campers, including the Camp’s Crisis Response Plan, night supervision
General cabin clean-up
Diploma or certificate within Office Administration Field or related area accompanied with at least six (6) months experience in an administrative support role.
Prior experience in residential Camping and Administration preferred
Bronze Med / Cross. National Life Saving (NLS) certificate is an asset
Current First Aid / CPR –preference given to those candidates holding the Wilderness First Aid Certification
Excellent computer skills including familiarity Office based software; word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications (i.e. MS Office Suite, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Facebook, Twitter)
Excellent organization, communication, written and interpersonal skill sets required and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary team
Analytical ability sufficient to review incoming correspondence and information requests and refer issues to the appropriate staff member, to determine the nature of calls received from management/staff and external contacts and provides appropriate general information in a timely manner.
A Criminal Records/Vulnerable Sector Check will be required two (2) months prior to commence of work term at staff’s own expense.
