Reports to: Head of Operations, North America

Job Purpose

The purpose of this role is to lead all HR activity in North America – to include (but not limited to) resourcing, labour relations, training & development, staff orientation and remuneration & benefits activities, as well as all HR operational processes.

Key Accountabilities

Liaison with key customer contacts and management of due diligence activity and the transfer (or otherwise) of incumbent customer employees.

Ongoing management of union /consultation obligations.

Provision of employee relations support to management.

Management of in-country employment advice relating to commercial contracts to mitigate risk.

Supporting HR elements of in-country bid activity.

Design and delivery of Canadian employment policies and procedures in line with federal and provincial legal requirements.

Benchmarking of pay and benefits structures across North America.

Review of current pay and benefits structure within North America.

Other duties as may reasonably be required.

Measures

Federal and provincial employment law compliance.
Implementation on time and against budget.

Person Specification

Experience:

Substantial Canadian labour relations experience, particularly in collective bargaining negotiations.
Significant generalist HR experience within a complex environment (good all-rounder).
Experience of employee transfer from one company to another.
Experience of developing and implementing employment policies and procedures.
Experience of developing and implementing employee remuneration and benefits structures.
Experience of managing HR projects from scratch and/or new start-up experience.

Skills/Knowledge/Competencies:

Solid understanding of federal and provincial employment legislation.
Ability to work in complex, matrix, global organisation.
Ability to work independently with minimal direct management.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to act as a credible advocate for the Company.
Strong organisational, project management, influencing, negotiation and diplomacy skills.
Ability to develop innovative solutions to problems and maximise opportunities.
Results driven.
Ability to think strategically whilst also being a ‘doer’.
Takes a positive and proactive approach to problem solving.
Ability to identify and deliver against the needs of multiple stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • CHRP qualified or equivalent professional experience
  • Minimum of 7 years+ in a similar role

Other:

  • Ability to travel nationally frequently and internationally on occasion.
  • Full current driving licence.
  • Able to work flexible hours.
