Currently we are looking for highly motivated and energetic individual to join our team as an Intermediate Project Engineer/Manager for Capital Projects (CONTRACT position) in the Greater Toronto Area. The role is responsible for the successful execution of capital projects in the Engineering & Industrial Technologies business unit in the client’s organization. This role reports to the Director of Engineering and will likely transition into leading several capital projects. We are looking for the "right" person with the can-do, results-oriented, and analytical attitude with ability to excel in challenging conditions. Major expected results of this role are projects that are delivered on time, within budget and to the intended levels of operability and quality.


Project Management (75% Effort):

  • Apply total project delivery process (from concept to validation and startup)
  • Provide Project Management leadership in developing and executing Capital Project plans through effective co-ordination of all the parallel activities and use of engineering best practices
  • Define project scope/objectives, form project teams, develop project strategy, and master schedule for Capital Projects (engineering, construction and/or start up activities) related to cGMP manufacturing, facilities, utilities, etc.
  • Conduct engineering design reviews
  • Assure that all the project elements are compliant with applicable safety, regulatory, and legal requirements
  • Provide technical support for Capital Projects and User Groups and communicate with customers and key stakeholders to ensure that the business needs are met
  • Support and motivate the Engineering & Industrial Technologies team to successful outcomes
  • Manage contractors and consultants during the course of the projects

Project Controls (25% Effort):

  • Provide control over the expenditure of capital elements
  • Apply Project Cost Control and Methodologies during project execution
  • Prepare and plan project funding and budgeting documents
  • Design project schedule utilizing tools such as Gantt charts and WBS
  • Pro-actively monitor progress, provide regular status updates to upper management and control Capital Projects to achieve cost-effective outcomes through risk and budget management


  • 7 to 15 years of work experience in the management of construction projects and capital projects in a pharmaceutical, food or chemical industry would be a considered a very strong asset in the selection process
  • Demonstrate Project Management expertise in design, construction, and related start-up activities
  • Ability to lead people and multi-disciplinary, cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrate interpersonal / facilitation skills necessary to interface with and influence all levels of management to achieve successful outcomes
  • Effective working with others with strong capability to resolve conflicts and deal with difficult people
  • Facilitate and provide general support to Senior Project Managers
  • Strong skills in organization, time management, work prioritization and attention to details
  • Strong flexibility to react to changes quickly and to modify approach to achieve project objectives while adhering to industry’s regulatory standards and company policies
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment
  • Ability to apply knowledge to resolve issues with excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Possess professional image and positive attitude
  • Understanding of financial management as related to capital and expense spending will be an asset
  • Working knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and Regulations for Construction Safety
  • Experience in industrial automation and system controls is a plus


  • Minimum requirement for this position is a technologist or equivalent diploma in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Technologies. Preferred education is a B.A.Sc. or equivalent degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Civil or Electrical Engineering
  • High level of familiarity with MS Office package (Microsoft Project, Powerpoint, Excel, Word)
  • PMP designation is a plus
