Currently we are looking for highly motivated and energetic individual to join our team as an Intermediate Automation, Instrumentation & System Controls Engineer (this is a contract position with very high potential for continual extension) in the Greater Toronto Area. The role is responsible for the successful execution of controls and automation projects in the Engineering Department in our client’s organization.



-Serve as a resource and a technical expert in the disciplines of automation controls for production line, utilities support, building automation and process equipment
-Assist in automation and controls systems design, specification, programming, simulation and testing, and start-up testing
-Panel design and layout, bill of materials, and wiring schematic capabilities are expected with this position. The candidate MUST have experience reading and redlining P&ID drawings
-Conduct Failure Investigations and implement solutions (corrective and preventive actions) to solve automation-related issues

Engineering Documentation

-Develop and update of Engineering documentation including URS (User Requirements Specification), FS (Functional Specification), HDS (Hardware Design Specification and SDS (Software Design Specification),
-Able to update Engineering Drawings, as such as Electrical Diagrams, Ethernet Architecture, P&ID, etc.
-Process model narrative and PLC/HMI source code commenting according to industry standards,
-Write-up of Commissioning and Qualification protocols and reports, prepare submittal forms as needed.

Project Management

-Able to manage small to medium engineering projects with little direction in cross-functional team to implement change and improve on existing processes
-Develop project plans, manage project budget, plan and schedule project timelines, track project deliverables, monitor project progress and develop status report
-Assure that all the project elements are compliant with applicable safety, regulatory, and legal requirements
-Manage contractors and consultants during the course of the projects


-Master or Bachelors Degree in Automation, Electrical Technology or Computer Science. -Automation system development and support with 5+ years experience.
-High level of familiarity with MS Office package (Microsoft Project, Powerpoint, Excel, Word)
-Knowledge/Experience of regulatory requirements for Pharma/Biotech facility.


-Hardware and Software used for SCADA, DCS, HMI (Wonderware, Rockwell, Intellution, Emerson)
-PLC Control (Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation, Modicon, Omron, Siemens) and PC special hardware.
-Hardware and Software used for BAS (Siemens Insight, Johnson Controls Metays, Honeywell);
-Knowledge of communication protocols (Modbus, DeviceNet, OPC etc) over serial, Ethernet and bus technology.
-Industrial Process Historian (RapidPharma, OSI PI, Rockwell Historian)
-Systems Integration with MES, Batch systems, ERP, SPC.
-Computer programming skills and languages (VB, C#/C++, Java)
