The BC Chamber of Commerce is the largest, most broadly based business organization in the province representing the interests and concerns of over 32,000 businesses as well as a network of over 125 chambers. Main Purpose & Function
As a member of the BC Chamber team, the Communications Officer is involved in effectively delivering key messaging on BC Chamber policy and initiatives to its target audience through BC Chamber communications and publication activities. This position will provide input into, and assist in the execution of, the BC Chamber communication strategy, communication vehicles, website management, graphic design, social media and media relations.
Strategic Communications Plan: Based on the vision and strategic goals of the BC Chamber and its policy positions, the Communication Officer is involved in the creation and implementation of the Chamber’s strategic communication plan focused on effective strategies that meet the needs of our membership.
Key Messaging to Stakeholders: Providing input into internal and external communication efforts, and effectively delivering key messaging on BC Chamber policy and positions to its target audiences, including writing and producing written material such as newsletters, news releases, op-eds, emails for membership and public release.
Design, Use and Maintain Communication Tools: Coordinating and monitoring the visual look of Chamber collateral, and ensuring that the Chamber is using up to date communication tools for newsletters, website and social media. This position is also responsible for executing the social media strategy, including maintaining communication tools such as chamber and media databases, website, and social media vehicles. The Communication Officer will also update and make changes to the website, create event signage, flyers and promotional material, develop AGM and event program materials, the annual brochure, and the BC Chamber Annual Report.
- University degree in a communication-related field
- Minimum 2 years experience in communications
- Demonstrated ability in spoken French
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent computer and technical skills
- Fluency in the Adobe Creative Suite, with a high proficiency in Illustrator, InDesign and
- Experience in building and managing websites, as well as writing web copy
- Fluency with email marketing software such as Constant Contact
- Fluency with social media vehicles such as Linkedin, Facebook, Youtube, Twitter and Flickr
