Independent
Avon Sales Representive (Former Employee), DerbyMarch 25, 2014
The job required you to work independently and the pay was based on the sales of produce you sold per month. I learned that door by door work is hard work and not a suitable job for me as I found the work lonely. I prefer to work as a team but this job I worked alone without co workers. A supervisor is given to a group of individuals and they visit – more... every so often but there is no actual boss, essentially you are your own boss. – less

Pros: advancement, tuition reimbursement
Cons: declining sales over the last several years have lead to multiple cuts
I thoroughly enjoyed my 16 years at Avon. I learned a great deal about running a business and strategy. Avon is a great company with a great mission, trying to find a cure for breast cancer.

Avon Independent Sales Representative (Former Employee), Ermine, KYMarch 13, 2014
Pros: flexible schedule
Cons: traveling at own expense
-you work on your own time, so time management must be enforced
-the job itself is not hard at all, so for the most part it is a good job if financially stable enough to travel. the traveling at your own expense can prove to be a bit difficult at times.

Well known company with quality products
Avon Representative (Former Employee), County DurhamMarch 10, 2014
Pros: flexible hours, self employed, nice products
Cons: unknown wage, customer unavailability.
A typical day at work included - delivering brochures, advising customers on products, delivering orders and collecting payments.
Whilst working I learned how to order products, match products to customer needs, promote products and time management.
As a self employed position I liaised with management whenever necessary to expand and improve the customer – more... experience.
I met with other representatives to discuss ideas and promotions etc.
The hardest part of the job was being able to forecast the orders for the month ahead.
The most enjoyable part of the job was the new products and the customer interaction. – less

Is not what it once was...
Director (Current Employee), New YorkMarch 7, 2014
Pros: amazing work through the avon foundation for women, helping people fulfill their dreams (avon representatives)
Cons: constant fire fighting, functional silos with out alignment, no accountability or ownership
Avon is slowly crumbling. Too much reliance on the global brand awareness and not enough investment in staying relevant/current. Some emerging markets are still growing, but the growth has slowed as other companies have learned from Avon's mistakes and are dominating the direct selling channel.

Relationship based company. Describe it as a "power point" – more... company vs an excel company. We like the look and feel vs the facts.

At one time, there was a structured succession planning, talent development, and a clear path for growth. Most of these opportunities have been impacted by Avon's financial crisis.

Right now, if you are looking for a place to fly below the radar and collect a paycheck, it may work for you. And, you may get severance at the end. – less

Fun line of work, own working time
Field Manager (Current Employee), Pretoria-Noord, GPMarch 5, 2014
Pros: working on my own time
Cons: creating enough interest with clients to reach financial targets
Making sure that all booklets are given to customers and all persons working under me understand their duties. If any financial problems or problems with the orders should arise I need to make sure it is taken care of as soon as possible. The manager above me and the people working under me are all very respectful of each other. We are friendly to each – more... other and treat each other equally. I love the line of work I am in as well as working on my own time. My job is more a hobby than work. The hardest part is making enough sales to reach my target when it is a quiet month and not all of the people working under me is reaching their targets.
I learnt to find clients and managing sales. Placing orders, sending e-mails, keeping track of all orders and clients as well as their information. Also contacting various clients regarding their orders. I have been promoted to manager within 6 months of working for the company. – less
