The Position:

An exciting opportunity exists for a Technical Services Representative in the Edmonton area, for our Surety & Home Warranty business. This position performs on site reviews of the single family and/or multi-family projects enrolled for home warranty while they are being constructed to evaluate the quality of construction to ensure that quality and practices follow relevant building codes and our minimum construction quality standards. Poor construction and building code defect directly increase the frequency and severity of losses. This position also performs inspections during the claim process to provide technical construction expertise to the claims adjusting process.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for inspection of homes and buildings during construction to ensure compliance with our quality of construction standards and building codes
Completion of Inspection reports , identifying any changes in risk exposure and recommending action to mitigate risk and provision of same to Technical Services Coordinator.
Escalation of problem reports to Technical and Underwriting management. Assist in identifying solution to bring the project onside standards.
Advise builder of deficiencies in methods, materials and workmanship
Perform technical construction reviews for the claims department in respect of home warranty defects
Provide timely, complete and accurate reports to adjusters.
Monitor areas of concern regarding construction trends, failures, building code changes and other construction risk and or discrepancies
Provide guidance and advice on technical construction matters to underwriting and claims
Participate and contribute to a cohesive and functional group environment
Continuously educate our builder members regarding new or alternate construction practices or materials that will improve the quality of their finished product
Attend continuing education on code changes and new labour/material technologies
Maintain strong working relationships with Builders and their trades. Persuading both to comply with our quality requirements and standards while still maintaining positive relationship and image for the Company

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Journeyman trade ticket
Post secondary certificate / diploma in Construction management, Construction Science or Canadian Home Inspector certification from an accredited institution or equivalent workplace experience
Minimum of five years experience in residential construction industry
Minimum three years residential warranty related experience
Strong knowledge and understanding of the residential construction industry in British Columbia and Alberta
In depth knowledge of residential construction procedures, methods, techniques and building codes
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Ability to influence builder clients to a win/win outcome.
Sound knowledge of the underwriting and enrolment processes within home warranty.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to meet deadlines, prioritize projects and implement workloads

This is a road position so the ability to drive and a valid driver’s license is mandatory.
This position requires travel within the regional area, and would be considered a "remote worker" role, with visits to the branch location when required. Additionally, this position would be provided with a company vehicle due to the required regional travel in the role
