ACCOUNTABILITIES

Manage one of the Actuarial Reserving teams – work schedule, study/vacation days, performance reviews, mentorship

Work closely with the other Senior Manager, Reserving

Support Economic Capital team in the areas of modelling Reserve Risk, Latent Risk and Underwriting Risk

Collaborate with Claims to identify and understand changing legislative landscape and impact on reserves.

Ensure compliance with Professional, Regulatory, External Audit, Internal Audit, Financial Reporting Control Framework and Risk Management requirements of the Actuarial Reserving Area

Review and discuss preliminary assumptions prepared by the Actuarial Analysts for quarterly reserve analyses

Review adequacy of unearned premium reserves to ensure no DAC impairments or premium deficiencies exist

Review IBNR allocation and financial bookings, and provide data to Corporate Planning

Provide Finance with CIFRS/UKIFRS external reporting schedules, notes to financial statements, legal entity variance analysis commentary

Share key assumptions and documentation with Pricing

Communicate impacts of IBNR changes to regional business partners

Collaborate with Reinsurance area on commutations, assumed and ceded IBNR analysis

Review structured settlements valuation quarterly

Review of latent claims liabilities annually

Support VP Reserving in various ad-hoc analyses

Maintain and improve current processes and methodologies

Quarterly internal and annual regulatory reserving reports

Quarterly IBNR balances and forecasts for Planning

Ad-hoc analyses of commutations for Reinsurance

Annual analysis of structured settlements for Finance

Ensure necessary and sufficient trained staff are available

EDUCATION

EXPERIENCE
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

B.Math/Science- Associate of Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS)

Five years actuarial experience with at least two years reserving

Canadian statutory and regulatory requirements

Solvency II and IFRS requirements

CIA Standards of Practice

Ability to lead and develop employees through hiring, performance management and technical growth

Ability to present and explain complex technical issues to Actuaries and non-Actuaries

Strong analytical skills

Good knowledge of actuarial reserving, process control techniques and insurance company operations

Good product knowledge

Accounting fundamentals

Fundamentals of data management

Monthly IBNR tracking reports and detailed journal entries to Finance and Regional Business Partners
