QA Director

The QA Director is responsible for strategic and functional day to day leadership, process development and adherence, staff allocations, personnel management, training as well as key performance metrics, for geographically dispersed QA teams. Growing the amount and quality of test automation is a primary success factor for this role.


  • Establish, adapt, implement and enforce formal QA processes and practices
  • Help grow and define a QA automation best practices and approaches
  • Participate in QA planning
  • Manage the QA workflow
  • Manage and resolve conflicting project priorities
  • Work with offshore QA staff to insure productivity and quality of work
  • Define, implement and maintain the corporate continuous quality improvement process
  • Analyze and report on important QA metrics (defect containment, defect find rate, ext)
  • Help define quality reports and insure consistent application of these reports across projects
  • Prepare and present information and performance data to senior management and to customers
  • Provide guidance on projects when needed
  • Mentor individuals in the department; particularly the QA Mgr
  • Conduct performance reviews
  • Ensure regular one-on-one meetings are held
  • Participate in interviews & selection and assess the need for additional staff or consultants and make the case if necessary during project lifecycle
  • Conduct performance reviews (3 month, annual and performance improvement plans, termination decisions and actions)
  • Ensure appropriate staff training plans
  • Participate in the corporate planning and budgeting process as needed
  • Participate in operational planning and forecasting


  • Post-secondary education in a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 10+ years direct experience in software development environment and minimum 8+ years in a supervisory role
  • Excellent understanding of software testing methodologies and software development lifecycle
  • Experience with test automation systems such as TestNG, Selenium, and Hudson
  • Experience in continuous integration and test environments
  • Experience in developing and deploying QA best practices, policies, procedures, and processes
  • Ability to set and manage priorities judiciously
  • Strong communication skills (internal and external clients)
  • Solid understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives
  • Exceptionally self-motivated, directed, and detail-oriented
  • Superior analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities
  • Solid understanding of assessing and designing internal controls in an enterprise-level environment
  • Ability to manage and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
  • Background in client facing environment is an asset
