AskMen is the world's largest men's lifestyle publisher and is currently undergoing transformation under a renewed editorial mission. We are looking for a dynamic and ambitious, Montreal-based art director. This is a unique opportunity to redefine the aesthetic and user experience of an international lifestyle brand. If you're a creative pro with seriously long-reaching ambitions, consider this your dream job.
In this position, you'll be reporting to the Publisher and working within the content team, but collaborating with all departments and producing across all platforms: text, image, video, and social formats. Some of your working day will be spent as an individual producer, some of it as a manager and mentor to designers and other creative producers.
We're looking for someone who is:
Ambitious - You are aware of trends and developments across the publishing industry and confident in your ability to keep pace with them. You can produce whatever your peers can, and if you can't, you're confident you can learn how quickly. You're on top of new platforms and media that publishers are using, and your integration of them into our publishing cycle will generally elevate our product.
Concept-articulate - You can develop unique concepts and communicate them in a clear manner, so as to precisely make us imagine what you're imagining. You can translate the conceptual into the concrete so that others truly get it. You can repackage your ideas as creative deliverables. You speak the languages of all production platforms, and are as comfortable talking video as you are talking illustrations.
Production-capable - You have the hands-on skill to produce creative across all platforms. When you are coaching or mentoring others on technical or production matters, your authority comes from your experience. Your concepts are not limited by what you know or don't know how to do. You are fluent in and active on all social platforms.
Tenacious - Your fresh ideas don't lose their luster over the course of production. You have the stamina to push your vision through while keeping it intact; what you produce is exactly what you imagined it would be, no matter how long it takes to get there.
Personable - You have real relationships across a broad network and a personality that lends itself to establishing new ones. We want someone who is charming and personable but, most importantly, a good listener. Sensitive creatives don't bristle at your feedback, and people want to work with you.
Business-minded - Your efforts will further our efforts as a business. You will be able to synthesize our business goals into your creative vision. You can conceptualize UX toward these ends.
Experienced - You have at least two years of experience managing others in a similar position or creative field. A degree in a creative program is an asset.
Please submit your portfolio, along with your CV and cover letter, as part of your application.
