Roles and Responsibilities
Primary role is to support machine design activities, assembly, commissioning and performance verification. Analyze machine behaviour and solve control system failures.
Conduct design calculations defining servo control systems/drives, hydraulic actuation, position feedback devices and supporting systems for multiple axis machines used in high volume production.
Make recommendations for machine design parameters, create requirements documents and specifications from back of the envelope sketches and novel ideals.
Troubleshoot hydraulic/pneumatic/electrical/software related machine failures. Issue engineering change notices, and seek machine improvement opportunities outside of the scope of original builds.
Prepare solid models, simulations, system schematics, and detailed drawings using SolidWorks, Visio and AutoCAD and present designs at technical design review meetings.
Interact with suppliers for commercial components selections used in designs.
Assist in prototype and production machine assembly, test and verification of performance to design parameters.
Analyze machine behaviour, diagnose and trouble shoot equipment problems.
Comply with total quality principles related to machine design and performance.
Provide hands-on engineering support to production.
Ensure equipment safety is in compliance with Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
Maintain technical reference documentation and system requirements documentation.
Train and mentor less experienced employees.
Provide estimates of time needed to finish assigned work.
Completion of an accredited Engineering program with a concentration in control systems and 5 years of systems development experience. Equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.
Advanced knowledge of servo controlled hydraulic systems, fluid power transmission, pneumatic systems, Allen- Bradley and National Instruments programmable logic controllers.
Experience working to ANSI & ISO drawing practices, supporting engineering review board investigations and writing engineering change notices.
Knowledge of SolidWorks CAD and SolidWorks EPDM, AutoCAD, Visio and MS Office products.
Enhanced mechanical skills, a technical school general shops program an asset.
Experience designing composite part manufacturing systems and associated tooling an asset.
Bilingual – English/French an asset.
Comfortable working as part of a diverse engineering team.
Comfortable working in an R&D environment where novel ideas are incorporated into complex machinery design.
Able to communicate ideas clearly, understand design concepts and complete tasks without supervision.
Able to effectively complete multiple tasks under tight time constraints.
Hands-on, comfortable working in office, shop and production environments.
