Roles and Responsibilities

Primary role is to support automated processing machine design, assembly, commissioning and verification activities.

Responsibilities/Duties

Take responsibility for prototype and production machine assembly, testing and verification of performance to design parameters.
Develop and improve manufacturing processes by studying product and manufacturing methods, analyzing processing machine behaviour and solving mechanical, thermal and automation problems.
Take initiative and seek machine improvement opportunities outside of the scope of original builds. Research commercial components to be integrated into machines.
Refine manufacturing processes by studying product requirements, researching and redesigning manufacturing methods and equipment, and conferring with equipment suppliers.
Improve manufacturing machine efficiency by analyzing and planning product work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
Prepare product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing processing information and machine behaviour.
Analyze machine behaviour and information obtained from operators in order to diagnose and trouble-shoot equipment problems.
Provide hands-on engineering support to production and engineering
Transfer practical knowledge of the machine assembly procedures into written technical documentation.
Provide estimates of time needed to finish assigned work.

Qualifications

Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
A minimum of 5 years actively working with complex material manufacturing systems, knowledge of prepreg and stamping machines a significant asset.
Experience with design of experiments to answer unknowns a significant asset.
Computer literate with knowledge of SolidWorks an asset.
Enhanced hands-on mechanical skills, a technical school general shops program an asset.
Experience integrating pneumatic and hydraulic subsystems into existing machine designs an asset.
Knowledge of PLC’s and measurement sensors an asset.
Knowledge of machines used to manufacture composite parts an asset.
Bilingual – English/French an asset.

Hands-on, comfortable working in office, shop and production environments.
