• the learning environment and the planned experiences foster inquiry, critical thinking, questioning, predicting, exploring, collecting, reasoning, connecting, reflecting, and communicating

• learning is enhanced in a social, collaborative and safe environment which helps students to become members of a community of life-long learners

• students should attend the school designated to serve their home community and should be included in age-appropriate classes with developmentally appropriate programs

• the learning environment encourages risk-taking, provides challenges, and ensures that all students experience success in their programs

• learning opportunities promote confidence and cooperation and emphasize the development of a strong and healthy sense of self-worth among all learners

• learners will engage in experiences where they apply strategies from across the curriculum, using critical and creative thinking, to solve problems in real situations

• learning opportunities respect and support the racial, cultural, and social identity of individuals in a secure and healthy environment where learners are safe from physical and psychological harassment

• learning experiences at each grade level vary from "hands-on" to more abstract activities as students work toward achievement of expected learning outcomes

• learners are intelligent in many different ways, and programs and instruction recognize, value, and encourage the diverse ways that students construct and represent their knowledge

• assessment and evaluation will reflect the full range of student learning, using a variety of information gathering strategies, and providing a variety of opportunities to demonstrate what students know

• a regional staffing arrangement is essential to support the appropriate learning structures at the elementary, middle, and high school levels

• the primary consideration for staffing in the AVRSB system shall be the delivery of equitable and quality programs across the region

• appropriate support of instructional programs and student services will be provided in the areas of Resource, school counselling, Race Relations/Cross Cultural Understanding and Human Rights, Technology, and Library Services

• at the Elementary Level, the core subjects shall be delivered in a self-contained classroom

• the Primary Year Program will offer learners a full day opportunity for both unstructured and structured experiences

• at the Middle Level, instructional context will reflect an understanding of early adolescents' developmental growth; their differences and commonalties; and their concerns, emotions, interests, values, and motivation

• at the High School Level, all students will have access to a wide and equitable range of course options which meets the minimum AVRSB public school program offerings and which will include graduation, open, academic, and advanced level courses, career access, community-based courses, expanded course options, "challenge for credit", and independent study

• course offerings at the high school level will support students to meet their current learning needs, and to plan and prepare for their personal, educational, and vocational futures

• the outcomes of the Public School Program will be met through the planning and delivery of programs and services by qualified educators in an instructional day of a minimum of 300 minutes – lessMore from ZoomInfo »
