Incredible opportunity to work with very talented scientists and to support their projects and teams.
Scientist (Former Employee), Seattle, WANovember 24, 2014
A typical day started with researching more data if needed for setting up an assay and then performing the immunohistochemistry staining. Reporting out the results was always important and exciting because they almost always led to new questions. The hardest part of my job was learning to accept that a negative result was still a result and answer. – more... The most enjoyable part of my job was the opportunity to keep learning and expanding my expertise. – less

Amgen is a good place to work with nice and professional co-workers. A typical day at work is hard but interesting. The managers are accessible.

The hardest part of my job is the validation moment because is a complicated and stressed scenario. The other moments (design, bring support...) are enjoyable.

Great company overal, just poor accountability
Customer Service Specialist/Material Handler (Current Employee), West Greenwich, RIOctober 30, 2014
Communication is very poor as well as management. People are very quick to blame others for any issues. Co-workers are good people but a lot of negativity. The most enjoyable part of the job is when it is time to punch out.

Manager, Research Operations (Former Employee), seattleOctober 29, 2014
Pros: compensation is top notch
Cons: constant layoffs, constant strategic changes
The foundation of a great R&D organization that has been undermined by CEO whose only real concern is keeping up appearances and stock price.

No job stability, no benefits for contract workers, poor management
Senior Associate (Former Employee), Thousand Oaks, CAOctober 14, 2014
Pros: nice campus
Cons: no job stability, poor management, unorganized, do not value talent
Beautiful campus and a lot of friendly and smart coworkers. However, there is no job stability, everyone is always looking over their shoulders and praying that they will still have jobs. Amgen hires a third party company to determine layoffs and they do not value talent.
As a contract worker, you are treated like a second-class citizen, no benefits – more... and cannot participate in any company events. Contract workers must park in the large parking lots and walk 15 minutes to the labs. There is always construction so sometimes it is very difficult to find parking. Management is very poor. Supervisors spend so much time in meetings that they do not have time to properly train employees. – less

First Class company with strong culture
Validation Lead (Former Employee), Thousand Oaks, CASeptember 28, 2014
Pros: i enjoy the high pressure
Cons: company and ibm politics were sometimes an issue
This was a four month contract (contracted under IBM) at the Amgen Thousand Oaks site for the roll-out of a $200 million SAP enterprise project. I was the Validation Lead with a team of about 5-6 people.

This was a very high pressure position with about 150 additional employees working on the project.

The task ended successfully which was the most – more... enjoyable aspect. – less
