Pros: discounts on everything!
Cons: not the greatest environment to work in.
Typical day at work: Always had something to do, which made time go by a lot faster. Mostly fold clothing, help people in/on fitting rooms/cashier.
What I learned: How too fold everything, cashier, helping people in Fitting rooms, Changing Mannequins, changing posters, changing prices.
Management: Never had a problem with them.
Co-Workers: most were – more... nice but a few were never really nice too me.
Hardest Part of the job: Floor set.
Most enjoyable part of the job: Meeting new people! – less

Upbeat and Encouraging Environment
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee), Burlington, ONFebruary 27, 2013
Pros: great work environment, wonderful product and staff discounts, fantastic store playlist
Cons: over staffing which may lead to less hours than expected
American Eagle holds wonderful potential for students looking to hold a part-time job in their extra time. It promotes positive work experiences by hiring young adults looking to improve themselves within the retail world. A.E. gives employees a chance to challenge themselves within a fast growing community, however there is a small issue with job security. – more... I was hired on a non-seasonal basis but due to over-staffind I was asked, along with other hired at the same time, to come back for the back to school season. Besides this small inconvenience I really enjoyed working at American Eagle as it provided me with an excellent place to expand my retail experience. – less

Rewarding job with incredible people
Sales Associate (Current Employee), Toronto, ONDecember 20, 2012
Pros: working with incredible people
Cons: not enough hours
American Eagle isn't just a clothing store, it's a family. My co-workers and I have created a strong bond that will last a life time. This translates to how we work in the store. We do not make commission, but they do track how much profit we pull in for the company. Everyone has their own goals, but at the end of the day that goal would be successful – more... because even if your personal goal wasn't achieved as a team it was. Team work is important to my company and important to me. Team work is the core of motivation and confidence building, and that is exactly what i've learned at American Eagle. My leadership skills have escalated, and because that I have become a mentor for any new employees. To me, money is important but not as important as seeing a customer happy. Nothing makes me more happier than to know I helped someone. I had many different customers over the years but their was one in particular that stood out. There was a Rabi that came into the store and asked me about a belt in the window. He said he has never been in this store before but was intrigued when he saw so many smiles on the workers faces'. I soon realized that he did not just come into the store to buy a belt, but to talk to someone. Usually in a sales associate job, the descriptions entails one to sell in order to make quota but that wasn't on my mind. We talked about him being a Rabi, how his beloved wife was very ill at home with a neck sprain, and his experiences in other stores. He made me walk him through the entire store and show him what we had to offer. We came back to the box of belts and he taught me how to shorten a belt, and take the clip off to change the sizes (something you would normally bring to the dry cleaners). He taught me more than I taught him. I am always eager to learn something new. The Rabi ended up buying socks and a belt as a token of appreciation and talked to my manger on duty to praise my company. The best part of my job is being surrounded by people. The hardest part of my job is pleasing everyone that walks through those doors. – less

Sales Representative (Former Employee), Burnaby, BCJuly 27, 2012
For the time that I spent working at American Eagle Outfitters, I had a great time learning more about the clothing industry and performing sales representative tasks. From this unique experience, I have learned how to promote sales, communicate better, and interact with many customers and co-workers. I enjoyed this work experience thoroughly because – more... it allowed me to develop my interpersonal skills and provided me with great insight on the clothing industry and how the mechanisms of retail work. – less

It is a fun workplace where you can enjoy talking to customers and selling your company's product to them.
Part-time Sales Associate (Current Employee), Mississauga, ONMay 25, 2012
Pros: it is not a commission based style of selling, co-workers are friendly, customer-friendly environment
Cons: part time hours, inconsistent management team
Weekends are always busy since it is a retail store in a popular shopping mall.
The experience working in the store helped me enhance my customer service skills like communicating to other people and make them purchase our products.
Management was inconsistent because the company kept changing our managers.

Seasonal Sales Associate (Former Employee), Saint Catharines, ONMay 13, 2012
Pros: discount on clothing
Cons: short hours/no hours
This job did not last long because of the large amount of staff and seasonal position. It was my first retail experience, and provided me with further customer service experience. It was a teamwork environment. My responsibilities included greeting every customer, insuring everyone was looked after. I was required to drive sales, and verbally advertise – more... promotions. Restocking hangers and shelves was another responsibility, as well as helping customers find the right styles they were looking for. At the end of the night, clothing must be refolded and displays must be perfect. – less

Sales Leader & Cashier (Current Employee), Toronto, ONMay 2, 2012
Pros: great staff to work with
Cons: long clean ups at closing
A typical day at work, is easy going. Customers walk in, always greeted at the sign at the door. It's a welcoming feel environment. I've learned to become a better person while working there. The staff is great, a well balance feel.

There are some days when I occur an angry customer, I listen to their situation and help them move from their frustration – more... into a equal working enviornment. – less
