Sad to see what ATI has become
SMTS DV Team Lead (Former Employee), Markham, ONAugust 14, 2013
Pros: senior ati people still there - some great people
Cons: the company seems rudderless
ATI used to be a great place to work. After AMD carved it up and took over the desktop graphics, it seems a lot of the spirit of ATI disappeared.
The work was challenging, and I wish I had stayed long enough to get a real feel for it, and for how management has changed since the AMD takeover, but I was around at a time when they were changing CEOs practically – more... every other week. When the new guy came in, they famously laid off several thousand people, and I got culled before I really had a chance to dig in.
The rumor is that they go through hiring binges and then soon after go through purges. Many of the senior staff are very frustrated with the situation. – less

Senior Analog/Mixed Signal Engineer (Former Employee), Markham, ONOctober 25, 2012
Good company, but compensation isn't up to par.

Road map changes too frequently, leaving employees often working on projects that never make it to market.

Strugling Company with Potential
Sr. Marketing Manager, Intelligence and Analysis (Former Employee), Austin, TXMarch 24, 2014
Pros: interesting work in semiconductors in austin
Cons: constant rifs are sapping morale
AMD's focus is shifting from PCs to semicustom silicon based on their IP developed for PCs and servers. PC area has downsized steadily over last 4 - 5 years with more of it going offshore. But even the semicustom division is losing US employees as cost continue to be cut. AMD employees in the US have to endure frequent RIFs and concern over where management – more... will cut next. Meanwhile, some future products for server and ultraportable clients hold promise of reviving departments other than semicustom. For now the SOCs for the PS4 and Xbox One are keeping the doors open. – less
