Working Title: Senior Graphic Designer
The primary purpose of the role is to design and produce communications materials for Ambrose University College. This person will spend most of their time creating a variety of both print and electronic pieces related to all areas of institutional communications both internal and external. S/he will have strong visual, interactive and graphic design skills, and be able to visualize and verbalize their ideas. S/he will have mastery of the latest design toolsets (Adobe Design Suite), and an exceptional understanding of typography. The Senior Graphic Designer must be an above average writer and editor of ad copy with expertise in marketing as well as corporate communications, and have a strong design portfolio with 5 or more years’ experience.
POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
DESIGN AND PRODUCTION OF COMMUNICATIONS MATERIALS: (80% OF TIME)
- Developing concepts and designing materials for both external and internal audiences
- Regularly writing and editing ad copy and headlines
- Working with images in Photoshop
- Preparing multipage documents as well as single page ads
PROJECT MANAGEMENT: (10% OF TIME)
- Organize and maintain workflow for active projects in Communications department
ADMINISTRATION & PLANNING: (10% OF TIME)
- Assist in the organizing and maintaining of the files and supplier records (both electronic and paper)
- contributes to the planning of projects and scheduling of work in department
- assists in the coordination and estimating of projects with suppliers
(1) COMPLEXITY and CREATIVITY:
The Senior Graphic Designer must understand the mission and vision of Ambrose. Projects must reflect the vision and values of Ambrose. S/he will have knowledge and experience in Branding, Point-Of-Purchase, Online and Print Design. S/he must have the ability to manage all aspects of a design project from start to finish; be able to handle large workloads with tight timelines; self-manage both small and large-scale jobs from start to completion, including project management. S/he must have a working knowledge various prepress and press-readying methods of file preparation.

The position requires maturity - specifically the ability to deal effectively and relatively independently with demanding and diverse stakeholders and clients. The Senior Graphic Designer must also understand the direction and complex environment of Ambrose, and be able to translate that knowledge into effective marketing and communication tools, in content and visual representation. S/he must have mastered the latest design toolsets.

The Senior Graphic Designer must: have worked with an organization creating communications and marketing materials that have proven to be effective in producing results and have a strong portfolio demonstrating their work. They must have an in-depth knowledge of Adobe Photoshop CS5 (or higher), Adobe Illustrator CS5 (or higher), and Adobe InDesign CS5 (or higher). S/he will have an extreme attention to detail, the ability to work well as a team member in collaboration and the ability to take a task and see it through to completion.
