The Organization

Altex Energy is a crude oil transportation company that provides customers with infrastructure alternatives to pipelines. Altex provides medium to long term contracts to customers and producers to transport crude oil from our terminals to refineries and other markets via rail car. Altex partners with Canadian National Railway to provide a full service system to manage the loading, transportation, regulatory reporting and logistics of shipping crude oil and diluent using efficient systems and cost effective methods to manage the product to market.

Altex operates primarily in Alberta and Saskatchewan with an aggressive growth plan to continue to build and operate terminals to handle crude oil products for customers in Canada and the US.

The Role

Reporting to the Director, Business Development & Marketing this role will be accountable to perform the following:

  • Identify and develop potential opportunities for new sites locations for trans loading terminals.
  • Lead project development from greenfield through land optioning, permitting, commercial development and Project Economics.
  • Evaluate existing markets and potential terminals for new business opportunities.
  • Lead Financial Analysis and Business Analysis of projects and business opportunities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide economic analysis and forecasting of existing and potential development opportunities.
  • Assist in merger/acquisition analysis and activities supporting Altex’s long term business strategy.
  • Lead and manage development projects from conceptual stage to commercial negotiation.
  • Support other Business Development initiatives with either directly or indirectly with financial analysis.
  • Maintain and Assist in developing a corporate model for management presentations to potential investors.
  • Prepare presentations including, financial analysis and business case recommendations as it relates to potential development projects for the Board of Directors.

The successful candidate will possess the following:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or related field or equivalent education and experience.
  • Financial Background with CA, MBA or equivalent experience in project valuation and evaluation beneficial.
  • A proven track record with experience in financial analysis, business and project development with a minimum of seven years in roles with increased responsibility and complexity.
  • Experience in Greenfield and Brownfield development for Oil and Gas or Infrastructure related industry areas such as Midstream or Power.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and manage relationships externally across the energy and rail transportation industries.
  • Highly analytical with the ability to complete detailed and complex economic analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to develop and deliver presentations.

  • Previous Project Management experience in leading projects of various levels in complexity.

25% travel may be required
