Key Job Requirements:

The Executive Director is the senior organizational staff person, and will interact with student leaders from both member and non-member organizations across the province while also developing and maintaining relationships with student associations, government officials and other key stakeholders. The Executive Director is expected to facilitate policy development, government relations and manage a variety of internal or external projects. He/She will bring forward ASEC policy statements in a non-partisan manner to all relevant departments of the Provincial Government of Alberta. The Executive Director will take direction from the decisions of the ASEC membership in addition to acting as an advisor to the membership on all relevant matters. The Executive Director will facilitate four annual conferences of the ASEC membership, as well as two annual Executive Committee retreats.

This is a senior-level, comprehensive management position.

A minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree, and/or satisfactory relevant experience;

Emphasis will be placed on a strong background in:

-Involvement in the post-secondary education policy and/or advocacy;
-Student government, or an applicable NGO experience;
-Media relations;
-Government relations as well as a working knowledge of Alberta provincial politics; and
-Developing and implementing a budget.

The ideal candidate will possess:

-Comprehensive critical analysis abilities;
-A thorough understanding of the strategic planning process;
-Exceptional interpersonal relations and public speaking skills;
-Management experience;
-Strong organizing and time management skills;
-The ability to thrive in a dynamic team environment;
-The ability to multi-task and appropriately prioritize;
-The ability to work effectively under pressure.

Selected candidates will undergo first round interviews from April 23 to April 25, 2014.

Salary: $45,000-52,000

Required hours of work: 37 hours weekly

Length of Employment: Full-time, permanent
