Reporting to a Manager for Alberta Health Services EMS System Performance & Innovation, this position will ensure effective data and information management for multiple areas within Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
Typical Duties:
Compiles data for ah-hoc requests/analysis
- Identifying data requirements from colleagues and clients
- Extracting data by writing MS Access queries, SQL server queries or through Business
Intelligence(BI) reporting packages (e.g., Cognos, SAP Business Objects, etc)
- Checking data quality to ensure data compiled is complete and accurate by applying
accepted business rules
- Formatting data so it is consumable by others as raw data sets, charts, tables using Excel,
MS Access, Tableau or BI packages
- Documenting procedures and methodologies used to perform data extracts, analysis and
reporting
Compiles regular scheduled reports
- Developing queries and methods as above to populate data into defined reporting templates
- Managing ongoing process for completion of these reports including report execution
- Help transition reports from Access/Excel based to Business Intelligence platform
- Building custom calculations in queries and reports using formulas and other methods
- Building custom queries for Quality Assurance audits for clinical care
Input into Department data quality standards and methods
- Identifying areas for improvement and risks to data quality and efficiency
- Recommending potential solutions
- Communicating with colleagues to ensure consistent practice
Specific Qualifications
- Proficiency in writing MS Access queries from a relational database structure
- Proficiency creating data presentations in Excel including charts, pivot charts, pivot tables
and connecting to external data sources
- Experience developing data presentation reports in a reporting package (Business
Intelligence) like IBM Cognos, Business Objects, SQL Reporting service or similar
- Experience developing Business Intelligence environments (Universes) and database ETL \
considered an asset but not essential
- Knowledge of VBA or SQL programming would be considered an asset
- Ability to clear document processes and methodologies
- Understand of data extraction best practice and risk assessment
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients
- Able to manage various and multiple tasks and projects
- Knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement practices considered an asset
- A background in healthcare and/ or clinical perspective considered an asset
Applicants should possess either a degree/ diploma or have a minimum of one year of related experience in data analysis. A combination of education and experience relevant to the position may be considered.
