The Alberta forest industry has been, and will continue to be a key driver of provincial economic activity providing over $9 billion to Alberta’s economy, and directly and indirectly employing over 38,000 Albertans. Moreover, the impact is widespread as over 50 communities across the province depend on the forestry industry as a vital part of their local community. Over the past 10 years, the forest industry in Alberta has undergone significant changes. The industry has modernized with the introduction of leading edge technology and environmentally sustainable practices. These changes have positioned Alberta’s forest companies as industry leaders and among the most competitive in the world.
The Alberta Forest Products Association (AFPA), is a non-profit association established in 1942 to represent the voice of over 20 member companies manufacturing lumber, panelboard, pulp and paper, and secondary manufactured wood products in Alberta. With the goal of fostering a greater understanding of the economic, environmental, and social values of Alberta’s forests and facilitating the success of its members, the AFPA provides programs and initiatives including the coordination of health and safety activities, lumber grading and quality control, continuous improvement, industry promotion, public education, issues management, and public and government relations.
The opportunity now exists for a new President & CEO to lead this critical and impactful industry in Alberta. The new President & CEO will be a results-focused organizational leader with a track record of providing vision and strategic leadership within a multi-stakeholder environment. In this role working with members and government, public and government relations will be fundamental to the achievement of the organization’s strategic objectives.
The successful candidate has a demonstrated track record of leadership experience ideally gained as a senior leader within forestry, government, or a resource focused association/organization. You may be a forestry executive, a senior civil servant who has dealt with a portfolio with ties to the resource industry, or a leader of another resources industry association with multiple and complex stakeholder relationships.
