Very fast paced
Total Access Specialist (Current Employee), Grand Prairie, TX – January 27, 2013
Pros: making you monthly goal
Cons: not making your monthly goal
Start your day by logging into Shoretell and starting you phone log, start making outbound calls to get orders, do quotes, take inbound calls, get orders, do quotes and try to make your monthly goals.
The best part of the day is dealing with customers, most are wonderful people trying to take care of their people by saving lives and getting the right – more... equipment for them to use each day. – less

Overworked/underpaid/unappreciated
Branch Manager-Former (Former Employee), East Coast – January 14, 2013
Pros: a pay check
Cons: everything else
As mananger I ran the day to day operations of my branch. I did all the reports that were required by the company, drove routes everyday, increased sales and gained new customers. I wore many hats as a branch manager. I was warehouseman, manager, driver, salesman, and many other things.

I learned that now matter how much you improved, increased profits, – more... work hard, work holidays, lose vacation time, take no sick days, work while injured, be accident free, rarely gets raises, and be a part of the company for over 15 years, you can be fired anyway. I also learned not to sign a noncompete form, because Airgas will not allow you to work for their competition. Airgas will fight the fact you signed a noncompete contract even though you did not leave on your own.

Mangement was terrible. They were more worried about how much their bonus was going to be for the year, rather than making sound business decisions. This goes all the way to the President of my division. They micromanaged every branch and worried about the little things too often. Most upper management should not be in the positions they hold. Branch managers for the most part were great. Most do not work very hard and are lazy. Come into work at 10 am and leave by 1 pm. These are the individuals who get promoted.
I really appreciated the workers I managed. They work hard and do what was needed to get the job done. Unfortunately, Airgas terminates the best employees and promotes the worst (If they promote from within).

The hardest part of the job is being short staffed. We had to work holidays (except Christmas) because of our customer base and lack of employees. Airgas bases the amount of employees by the volume you have not, volume and miles driven to service your customers. Having to work for unqualfied uppermanagement was very difficult to deal with.

The most enjoyable part of working for Airgas was taking a vacation, going home after a 15 hour day, and getting a paycheck. – less

Great workers
Medical Oxygen Filler/Loader (Former Employee), Albany, GA/ Tampa, FL – January 8, 2013
Pros: good pay, benefits
Cons: bad management
All the people I worked with were great on a worker level. When it came to management the plant managers ran all over the higher up managers. For example, in the Tampa plant the manager comes into work at 8am or after and is out by 1pm to go drinking not good management there. Management talks to you like you are stupid. now don't get me wrong some – more... managers are awesome and would walk to the ends of the earth with them. All in all a good place to work. – less

Fun if you want to overwork and be underpaid
Priority Buyer (Former Employee), Salem, NH – December 28, 2012
Pros: not much
Cons: poor management, excessive work > valued as a human
Never worked for such a poor managed company where every other dept in airgas is defended before management defends their own. Workload is excessive, pay is average to below average for the amount of work. Position is "exempt" even though this position does not meet "exempt" requirements. Outside management does not know of all the overall issues in – more... this location. As a priority buyer, be prepared to be walked on by every other dept in airgas, and remember you are never right. When you bring up issues or ideas to management be prepared to be disciplined against. Overall, I believe regional management needs to step in and see what is being done at this location before everyone quits because that's the environment in this office. – less

Worst place I ever worked
no (Former Employee), HR – December 14, 2012
Pros: nothing
Cons: everything
Managers are bullies. You are hired for your knowledge and experience yet they treat you like you are clueless. Everything has to be done in the most complex way possible. Managers bully you into doing what they want, how they want it done, when they want it, then do nothing with it. If you know and prove there is an easier and more automated way of – more... doing it, you are told "no, we don't do it that way here".

You are trained to provide above and beyond customer service, yet you are constantly reminded that it's not your job when you help other co-workers. There is no TEAM even within the same department. If you try to help someone so that something gets done, you are told it's not your job. The training was provided to employees, but not the managers.

You are giving a project, told how to do it (step by step), then critized if you have any improvements. If you do it one way, you are told next time to do it another way. If you do it the other way the next time, you are critized for doing it that way and asked why you didn't do it this way. Never happy. When you do find something that would eventually blow up into a huge problem, there is no pat on the back or a job well done. Somehow it's still a problem that you should have found sooner. There is no pleasing certain people. – less

IT Support Specialists (Former Employee), Lawrenceville, GA – December 10, 2012
Pros: great benefits, no micro-managing
Cons: not a lot of room for advancement
Airgas is a strong productive company. You can count the company growing for a lot more years to come. They have a great 401k plan and other benefits. Not really a lot of room for growth within the company in particular departments.

Great place to work
Data Integrity Supervisor (Current Employee), 17 Northwestern Dr Salem NH 03079 – November 10, 2012
My typical day is to resolve customer account issues. I am responsible to assure that the department manages to resolve any customer account changes, such as contract pricing , address, blanket PO changes for our region. My department was responsible for the integrity of the data of customer accounts. While employed with Airgas, I was lucky to be enrolled – more... and graduate from their management training. In my employment with Airgas I was fortunate to work with some very committed and knowledgeable people in the field. What I enjoyed the most about my position, is the variety of issues that need to be resolved, on a daily basis and the feeling of being to be of help to other associates to ensure that our customer is satisfied with our business. The hardest part of my work was to be able to meet some of our deadlines on special projects. Even though that was very hard, I always felt very gratified when we managed to meet these deadlines. – less
