Stable, but stagnant
Technology Specialist/Facilities Assistant (Former Employee), Irvine, CAJuly 31, 2014
Pros: stable company, excellent benefits
Cons: zero opportunities to grow
I worked for this company for 10 years. Only had one job opportunity ever open up, and was happy to take it tooth and nail. After that, having moved into IT support, nothing. It was find, stable, but stagnant. I eventually left of my own accord to pursue other, more meaningful ways to develop myself.

Lasting company in a shifting market
Vendor/Sales Representative (Former Employee), Atlanta, GAJuly 20, 2014
Pros: there is no supervisor standing over your shoulders
Cons: lay-offs are common
Advantage Sales and Marketing is a great company for those seeking to get their foot in the door. The starting salary is pretty low and the opportunity for advancement is slim. The company lost their contract with Home Depot after the housing crisis and the recession of 2009.

Need more training
Assistant Manager (Current Employee), Columbia, SCJuly 17, 2014
Pros: people are great.
Cons: not much training, not a lot of communication and no position advancement.
When I first got hired, I was trained a whole day. Now that I am a Assistant Manager, the training is more on the computer then hands on. My typical day is I get the paperwork, walk to the back, and push demo carts out of the room. Then start on paperwork, while associates ask me question about their event for the day. I help the associates get on the – more... floor in time and help them find their products. I then get myself ready and get on the sales floor to demo a product. About half way through the day, I check temp sheets and fix any problems the associates might have. I go to lunch and then start again my demo. – less

Enjoyable, self drivin, job serving the public
Event Specialist (Current Employee), Clovis, NMJuly 15, 2014
Pros: only 6.5 hour shifts, time for set up and break down
Cons: only one 30 minute break, no insurance benefits
A typical day would be to show up at the store, acquire the "kit" that was shipped into the store, locate and purchase product for the demonstration. Move cart and needed supplies out to the floor and cook or display product according to the manual. Some events required major cooking with a convection oven, toaster oven, microwave, multi-cooker etc. – more... Others would be something as easy as setting out product and discussing it with the customers. Management is basically dealing with each individual stores management team and setting up according to their specific stores needs. The ASM management is very rarely involved as the district manager was stationed out of Kansas. On occasion we would have multiple demonstrations where we work with others but most of the time it is a solo job. I enjoyed working with the store employees and learning their names. They can be a great ally to our success. The most difficult part of the job is learning to cook large "meals" in the middle of a convenience store and then sampling them out all while keeping the items at the correct temperature. I love cooking and I love people and really enjoy a job where I can combine them both! – less

Just a job
Retail Reset Merchandiser (Current Employee), TexasJuly 12, 2014
Pros: flexible hours
Cons: low pay, no raises, expensive benefits. no appreciation of employees.
In the 8 years I've worked for this company, they have really only taken away benefits. Low pay and no raises. Other companies that do the same type work, pay their employees at least $1-$5 more an hour. When I started, they would pay mileage and drive time after the first 30 min or certain # of miles, now it's after an hour. Once upon a time we received – more... holiday pay. For vacation time, you received a percentage of time for hours worked, now you must work 1,040 hrs to before you can receive anything. I was short 5 hours of making this magic number this year, so I get nothing and must work a full year befor I can qualify again. With my position, we do not work Nov-Dec., so no pay, but it is nice to be off for the holidays. They do offer health care for part time employees, but it's so expensive and you get payed so little, it would take my full paycheck (2 weeks pay) to just have it. After all that, why do I still work here?!? It's a job.... and the top reason...flexible hours so I can be there for my children when they need me. – less

It was alright
Event Specialist (Former Employee), South Jordan, UTJuly 10, 2014
Pros: work with food
Cons: sometimes hard to sell
We came in and saw what we would be selling for the day. Sometimes you got something easy as fruit. You would cut it up and set it out for people so it was an easy seller. The hardest part was selling non-food items. I had toilet paper once and I had no idea how to sell that to people. Most enjoyable was having regular customers and talking with them – more... like you've known them forever. – less

Good Communication
Retail Service Merchandiser (Former Employee), Aurora, COJuly 7, 2014
Pros: healthcare was good, probably changed due to obamacare
Cons: took away gas card, made territories bigger
Held phone meetings about every 2 weeks to keep everyone on the same page. Seems like good communication is rare these days, but this company still has it

Great position, however compensation and expectations are not comparable to the market
Retail Sales Representative (Current Employee), Denver NorthJuly 2, 2014
I call on four or five different accounts a day to sell against our clients and gain distribution. I have learned different selling tactics to accommodate our clients and chains. As well as, how to manage the work day appropriately to accommodate the needs of the company and clients. Direct management is great and engaged, however upper management is – more... disengaged on the reality of the competitive market as well as compensation. – less

Able to be your own boss.
Retail Sales Merchandiser (Former Employee), Fort Myers, FLJune 23, 2014
This job entailed a lot of travel as you needed cover different Wal-Mart's in a certain area. Each visit to a store was to cover certain objectives for that location. Use of a handheld PDA type device was what would have what items to check for and take what ever actions were needed to clear any problems. Also each visit required meeting with the store – more... managers and department heads to make sure all items were fully stocked and that any promotions have been set up. Every week there was a conference call with the Regional Manager to go over any issues or to call out certain items to pay attention to. – less

Worked with great people
Club Supervisor (Former Employee), Irvine, CAJune 22, 2014
Pros: good people
Cons: event specialists got 30 minutes for lunch and no breaks, i got two people raises during the three years i was there, i never got a raise and don't know anyone who did, except for the people i asked upper management for.
I was a club supervisor and this was the most stressful job I've ever had. I had to walk the floor all day and then go home and get all of my paperwork and reports done before I could go to bed. The schedule came out on our day off and we had 24 hours to get the schedule entered into the system.

I also had to take care of little feuds between event – more... specialists every once and a while. I was the only one that would buy a box of candy or popsicles and hand them out to my people in gratitude for their hard dedicated work. They were a great bunch. Right after I left and lot of upper management were either fired or quit. The company lost a lot of good people. – less
