Pros: made $10.00 an hour, met & worked with nice people, got experience in retail, networking (found a job with another company)
Cons: not a job to have if you need to support a family, little to no training, no structure/organization, lack of supplies, lied about numbers to make management look good and to get scheduled for events
A typical day working for ASM as an Event Specialist:
I went to the store I was assigned to work in, found my Event Pack (the box with the my Plano-gram and the supplies/instructions needed for the event). I set-up and placed the event cart in the store where I was promoting the product, and bought the supplies I needed with with my company credit – more... cards. After that I merchandised the cart and prepared the products I was sampling. Next, I sold, and sold, and sold some more!!!
Working for ASM, I learned how to buy the products I needed for demonstrations, how to use my home computer for Administrative duties (to see my work schedule, answer survey questions from demos, fill out my time card, etc...)
I saw my Manager 2 or maybe 3 times in 6 months (including my interview).
My co-workers did their own things. A couple of my co-workers were very nice and went out of their way to help when i had a question or a problem, but some of them did what they had to do to keep their hours even if it meant getting your hours cut.
The hardest part of the job was the set-up and finding everything you needed to complete a good demo. I did not like cooking. Cooking was terrible especially when you had to serve more than 1 product and had no coupons. Plus, we had some bad demo carts that seriously needed fixed, no lockers or safe places to hang coats or purses, no break room, etc...
However, the most enjoyable parts of the job was when I got to do general merchandising jobs (not food, but selling things like razors or hair color, etc...) and I had coupons, information, and product that was available for the customers. I also loved the friends I made who worked at/for the stores I worked at. – less
