Department Overview:

The Global AML Compliance Department is accountable for establishing Global Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorist Financing Program (AML/ATF) to ensure that all businesses remain compliant with AML/ATF regulatory expectations in all jurisdictions where operates. This includes setting consistent standards across business segments that maybe further tailored to specific business or jurisdictional requirements; conducting annual enterprise-wide AML risk assessments; maintaining the Global AML Policy (including Know Your Customer (KYC) and Enhanced Due Diligence, record keeping & retention requirements); currency transaction and suspicious transaction monitoring and reporting; screening customers against regulatory watch lists; a hierarchy of designated AML officer functions; enterprise-wide and specialized AML training of employees; and independent AML testing.

Job Description/Accountabilities:

Reporting to Manager, AML Analytics, the Senior Data Mining Analyst will be involved in all areas of development and validation of the money laundering/terrorism financing risk strategies. This position will be responsible for the delivery of insightful, accurate and actionable analytics in support of various AML solutions, including automated transaction and risk monitoring tools. As part of the Global AML Technology team, the successful candidate will be providing analytical support on AML technology projects for the Global AML Compliance department, and will liaise with Corporate Segment Technology Solutions (CSTS), the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) and other areas within Global AML Organization (GAML).

  • Identify, measure, and report on Enterprise-wide AML/ATF monitoring coverage
  • Monitor efficiency of the existing solutions and identify and escalate all significant transaction monitoring and risk gaps
  • Use statistical and data mining techniques to build and maintain effective and efficient transaction monitoring, customer behavior, and risk scoring models
  • Develop various segmentation schemas in order to provide additional customization of the monitoring models
  • Partner with GAML teams to implement changes to existing solutions and/or the implementation of alternative solutions
  • Undertake ad hoc data mining research projects to find hidden patterns and potential anomalies within data
  • Develop and produce regular risk reports and ad hoc reports as required, to meet the needs of financial control and monitoring requirements
  • Communicate results to various stakeholders and ensure they fully understand implications of relevant measures
  • Assist Global AML Technology team with collecting requirements and testing for the AML technology projects
  • Liaise with IT and business contacts to design test and implement future enhancements to the data model
  • With assistance from Management, act as a point of contact for business management, regulators and internal auditors on all transaction and risk monitoring related questions

Specific Educational Requirements/Accreditations:

  • Strong quantitative skills with a degree in one or more of the following areas: statistics, economics, finance, mathematics, physics, engineering
  • Graduate degree preferred


  • Good knowledge of SAS/SQL
  • Good knowledge of Financial Retail products and services
  • Minimum 3 years experience in AML, fraud, credit risk, database marketing, and/or customer analytics and modeling
  • Very good written and oral communication, analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate with users with various technical backgrounds
  • Excellent time management with minimal supervision
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills; ability to adapt to and manage changing priorities
