Chef Job Description:

Mission Statement

Addiction Canada is a fully private inpatient residential treatment center committed to providing withdrawal management, assessment, group work, and counselling treatment to persons who have been impacted by substance use.

Position Summary

The Chef is responsible for guaranteeing that the clients are served nutritious, appetizing and appealing meals. This position involves extensive organizing, problem solving, record keeping, and time management. This role must be performed in a manner that is consistent with the company’s mission and values with adherence to company policies and procedures. In order to ensure succession, progression, productivity and measureable results, staff is expected to exhibit visionary leadership and to facilitate the training and development of support staff.

Key Job Responsibilities:

This position requires the utmost in professionalism.

Maintains established standards of sanitation, safety, food preparation and storage as set by the local and provincial health departments; maintains an orderly, sanitary, and safe kitchen.
Participate in all emergency drills and environmental safety activities.
Prepare a weekly list of required food and food related items and place order with authorized supplier.
Maintains cost control, budget including records of food production, service and attendance.

Assures the proper care and maintenance of all food service equipment; identifies equipment needs for food preparation and service and assists in purchasing as needed.
Check and make note of special dietary needs and concerns of all clients.
Shares duties with the Assistant kitchen staff(s) for efficient functioning of food service.
Prepare the planned menus
Plan all meal menus ahead.
Maintain an inventory of all kitchen utensils, equipment, dishes and related items.
Maintain a kitchen cleaning schedule.
Prepare food, serves food, and washes all dishes after all meals.
Participate in general staff meetings and other meetings and events planned by the manager as requested.
Oversee and ensure Kitchen assistant personal complete duties assigned.

Core Competencies:

Post-Secondary Education in related field
2+ years of related experience
Successful completion of the Food Safety Education and Certification Program
WHMIS certificate
Knowledgeable of Canada’s food guide and healthy nutrition
Proactive and able to continuously manage change in an extremely fast paced, energetic work environment
Outstanding communication, problem-solving skills and customer service skills

The candidate must have reliable transportation, Acquire and maintain First Aid, and CPR certification.
The candidate shall follow the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act by not releasing information regarding a client unless written authorization is signed and witnessed.

This position requires a probationary period of three (3) months. This job description describes the general nature of work expected.
