CIVIL ESTIMATOR/PROJECT MANAGER

Adam Alexander & Associates has been retained by a progressive based multi-disciplined contractor with a very successful history of leading, developing and managing various construction ventures throughout British Columbia, to assist them in their search for a Civil Estimator-Project Manager. This challenging and rewarding career opportunity is a key member of the management team and will appeal to the professional that is knowledgeable and experienced in both estimating and project management. Based in Kamloops and reporting to the Civil Division Manager, the primary mandate of the position will be to:

  • Estimate both conventional (Bid-Build) and non-conventional (Negotiate from concept) delivery models
  • Works closely with clients to secure project requirements;
  • Analyses and identifies the inherent risk and opportunities that the tender presents;
  • Detailed takeoff, interpretation of drawings & specifications
  • Determines the general expenses and provides input into the margins and fees;
  • Prepares estimates of probable costs of materials, labour and equipment for projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings and specifications;
  • Provides support and direction to engineering teams and clients during the coordination and preparation of estimates and proposals;
  • Ensures all processes are in place for overall risk assessment and necessary mitigation;
  • Prepares cost and expenditure statements and forecasts during project;
  • Prepares and maintains a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors;
  • Liaises, consults and communicates with engineers, architects, contractors and subcontractors;
  • Plans, organizes, directs, manages and co-ordinates construction projects and prepares construction progress reports and schedules, from tender document through to project completion;
  • Analyses subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure the scope of the work is in compliance with plans and specifications;
  • Supervise, direct and oversee subcontractor activities and subordinate staff.
  • Analyze drawings & specifications to prepare detailed and accurate; cost, schedule, materials, and labour estimates

The challenging responsibilities of this position will appeal to the professional who possess a university degree/diploma in Civil Engineering field, CCA Gold Seal Certification (an asset) and is supported by a minimum of 5 years in a senior estimating role in construction or civil works, with project management and costing experience, and a demonstrated ability to deal effectively with team members, subcontractors and clients.

Other key requirements include a proficiency in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Projects, Etc), HCSS Heavy Bid software, negotiations, contracts and bid reviews, excellent communication skills, strong organizational skills, the ability to set and manage priorities and meet deadlines, proficiency and knowledge in scheduling, knowledgeable in all pricing structures including, an ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external contacts, an ability to work collaboratively as a team and independently, perseverance and resilience, a strong desire to succeed, and an attention to detail and accuracy. The ability to adapt, undertake multiple tasks and respond quickly to changing priorities is imperative.
