Access Midwifery & Family Care (AMFC) is a full-service midwife & nurse practitioner clinic in Victoria, serving the needs of pregnant & parenting women, babies & children & families, especially those whose lives may be complicated by poverty, homelessness, substance use & mental health issues. AMFC has received assistance through the Canada Summer Jobs Program to hire a student. Persons applying for this position must be:

  • Canadian citizens or permanent residents
  • between the ages of 15 and 30 years of age
  • registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and who intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year.

Position: Office Assistant
Employment dates: Late May to late August, 2013 (13 weeks)
Hours of work per week: 37

Job description:
The clinic provides a fast-paced, ever-changing environment for an organized, calm individual. The successful applicant will possess independent work skills and be a self-starter. We use electronic health record keeping software (OSCAR). Knowledge of EMR is an asset.

Responsibilities include:

  • general office administration
  • computer use (including use of word processing software, databases, electronic scheduling, e-mail, electronic medical records)
  • information & systems management
  • data collection
  • record keeping
  • community liaison work

Skills and knowledge required:

  • basic office experience
  • computer competency with word processing, spreadsheets and databases
  • experience working with electronic medical records (EMR) an asset
  • experience working with the public, including ability to work within strict privacy guidelines
  • able to multitask and be adaptable
  • excellent communication skills, both written and oral

Note: Preference will be given to applicants who are recent immigrants, First Nations/Aboriginal applicants, members of a visible minority or applicants with barriers to employment.
