SUPERVISOR: Retail, Food Services at Dalhousie University
LOCATION: Killam Library, Rowe Building, Law Building, Computer Science Building
SHIFTS: Typically days; seasonal employment, Sept-April, with opportunity to work in summer months as well.
RATE OF PAY: Negotiable

  • Carry out the day-to-day execution of four retail outlets, including two Second Cup locations, Proudly Serving Just Us! Coffee café, and We Proudly Brew Starbucks café
  • Responsible for ensuring a positive work environment and motivating staff members
  • Monitor staff, make suggestions, abide by workplace safety standards
  • Ensure exceptional and professional customer service
  • Maintain all brand standards and product specifications at a high quality level
  • Weekly inventory and inventory control (ordering and counting)
  • Complete necessary safety audits and paperwork (eg: SafeSTEP, Daily Safety Talks, etc.) as assigned by Supervisor/Manager
  • Ensure that temperature logs and core samples are taken on a daily basis
  • Monitor portion control of food
  • Prepare daily cash deposits, ensuring accurate paperwork is submitted in a timely manner
  • Ensure that work spaces are sanitized and safe
  • Work within a team environment
  • Cash handling required
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager
  • Hours of work will be dependent upon business levels
  • Daily customer-facing duties (service, cash register, customer interaction, etc.)
  • Ensuring staff are completing required duties, motivating staff, and when needed, address discipline issues
  • Set daily and weekly schedule, while maintaining appropriate labour levels
  • Making change/cash
  • Helping with customer feedback, and relaying to Manager
  • Ordering product/supplies when needed
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager
  • Hours of work will be dependent upon business levels, however, full-time hours are anticipated


  • Current First Aid Certification
  • Current Food Safety Training
