Pros: very interesting experiences
Cons: no guaranteed work week
This job does not come with a typical work day. One day you could work non-stop 6 am to 6 pm and the next you could work just one or two hours. The best part of these job is when you get to actually help people who need their things removed. On the flip side the worst part of the job can sometimes be the people or the crazy stuff you have to remove.

I worked in the in-bound sales position in their Toronto office - You Move Me - In-bound Sales agent. It's important to keep in perspective that this is a new company (born: Feb, 2013) and that their 'real' – more... objective is to increase franchises first and foremost. This fact takes precedence over anything and all else. Upper management in the corporate is not that sharp. Their marketing is awesome - created outside the corporate entity. Inbound Sales Agent (Former Employee), Toronto, ON – December 1, 2014
Pros: good people
Cons: monotonous and low pay
Standard eight hour shifts start as early as 6:00 am. Low hourly wage and poor commission structure. Managers and co-workers were nice people to work with but upper management are egotistical. Good culture and fun work environment. Not a professional sales role, it is more of order taking and dispatching jobs to franchise partners.
Unskilled Management. Zero benefits. Overtime all the time. At hands of franchise owner that may or may not be invested in the success of the business you will end up frustrated. The head office is probably – more... the only reason this company was rated in the top 100 places to work in BC. My opinion: there are better jobs out there for the minimum wage paid by JUNK. AS well the lack of potential bonus / profit sharing as well as lack of future potential makes this an unsustainable job for most. – less
Sales/Driver/General Labour (Former Employee), Kitchener-Waterloo, ON – February 14, 2013
Pros: meeting new people, working hard and getting dirty.
Cons: not enough hours, tough to support a student girlfriend and myself
A fairly laid back atmosphere, where having fun and working hard went hand in hand. Dealing with customers, haggling over prices, navigating the streets of Kitchener/Waterloo and surrounding areas under – more... tight deadlines was an excellent way to pay the bills. I knew I wouldn't be able to make a career out of it however, but until I returned to the Georgian Bay area, it was a great working environment. Most days followed a standard routine; clean and prep the trucks, review the schedule and sales with management, then roll out, perform on the spot sales with a colourful cast of customers, followed by a landfill or donation run. We also were required to invent and carry out various marketing duties when possible. As stated before, I left the job for a better career but was definitely sad to leave. – less
You will quickly be surprised when you realize just how in-depth full-service junk removal can be. What most people don't realize about this job is its not simply slinging people's junk into a truck. A – more... Driver/Navigator will learn sales, customer service, and marketing in a fun but competitive, fast-paced environment. You'll learn time-management skills, and be responsible to manage appointments while keeping customers happy. It offers exercise, sunshine, and free junk (you would be surprised to see some of the things people throw out). I will warn you, that if you have a sensitive sense of smell or can't lift a fridge out of a basement this job may not be for you.
You'll meet many interesting people; contractors, retail managers, hoarders, celebrities, seniors down-sizing, real-estate agents, just to mention a few of the types of people you'll come across. You will be helping overwhelmed people get rid of the things bogging them down, and while it can be challenging it is also very rewarding.
You'll always have a chance to improve yourself through metrics- and incentive-driven days, and there are enough in-office competitions to keep you on your toes. Your managers will drive you, often with a tough-love approach; their corporate team motto: "to empower each employee to reach their full potential" is very true, and they are every bit as fair and fun as your fellow truck-team members.
The culture is great and there wasn't a single guy that I didn't like working with (which is important when you're spending ten to twelve hours with the person). There are many fun events you can participate in, including the Junk-Indy, paintball, a basketball team, and 5k races to name a few. 1-800-Got-Junk? is very committed to giving back to the community by donating and recycling a large percentage of all junk hauled. Their annual yard sale for the cure raised $30,000 this year for breast cancer and continues to increase every year.
All in all it was a great experience, and I learned many skills that will be transferable to any future career. – less
