About us

RocMar Engineering Inc. is a consulting engineering firm. Specializing in Structural Engineering, Building Science, Forensics, and Environmental Consulting. Based in the Greater Toronto Area. We are looking for a structural engineer, who will be reporting to our two principals and working closely with other engineers and support staff.

This opportunity will be best suited for individuals who are detail-oriented, self-motivated, eager to learn, and willing to take on new challenges.

The successful candidate must be able to:

· Demonstrate solid knowledge of relevant engineering principles and fundamentals;

· Provide practical and reasonable solutions for the structural design of new builds, as well as modifications and repairs of existing structures, applying sound judgment and fundamental theory;

· Convey the solution to the client through specifications/drawings, and reports;

· Put in the necessary effort to excel and succeed in the role.

Job Description:

· Conduct engineering analysis and design of new building structures, as per requirements of clients and architects, and review of existing structures;

· Collect detailed and accurate field notes, documenting site conditions, including photography;

· Generate and review working drawings, comprising BIMs (Building Information Modeling) and design, when required;

· Review of shop drawings provided by other parties, for conformance with design drawings and requirements of building code;

· Prepare detailed and thorough reports, including responses to planning examiners;

· Maintain adequate communication (via emails and phone calls) with management, clients, contractors, homeowners, consultants, city/building officials, and other project-related personnel;

· Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

· Structural engineer with a P.Eng. designation or EIT working towards P.Eng.;

· Must hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering or applied science in relevant disciplines;

· Solid understanding of structural engineering principles and fundamentals;

· Practical knowledge of structural systems for buildings (such as load transfer paths, structural components, and their function, etc.), notably for residential, industrial, and commercial applications;

· Must have 4-6 years or more of structural engineering experience in Canada (pre-graduate experience also counts). Understanding of building science, including any formal education or exposure to this the subject would be considered an asset;

· Working experience with National and Ontario Building Codes is required. Knowledge of AISC procedures is an asset;

· Experience of work with design standards, such as CSA S16, A23.3, and O86 is required. Experience with masonry design code S304.1 is an asset;

· Working experience with structural software, such as CSI products (SAP2000/ETABS/SAFE) or similar, Woodworks design software, MASS as well as MS Office, Bluebeam, Revit, and AutoCAD is required;

· valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
