SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST

Pikangikum Allied Health Services (PAHS)

Position Description:

Under the direction of the Pikangikum Allied Health Manager and the Pikangikum Education Authority (PEA), the School Psychologist will work to help organize and deliver psychological services in the Pikangikum Allied Health Services (PAHS) program. The PAHS program is a collaboration between PEA and the Pikangikum Health. This position will be located from a primary office in Winnipeg, as well as travel monthly or as needed to Pikangikum First Nation for assessment, provision of therapy, interdisciplinary team meetings, staff training and mentorship and overall monitoring and evaluation of treatment plans. The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of a wide variety of psychological services in the school in a timely and responsive manner.

Responsibilities will Include:

  • Conduct comprehensive cognitive and diagnostic assessments with children and youth with academic, behavioral, social or emotional challenges
  • Interpret assessment results and write comprehensive reports
  • Use both formal and informal assessment procedures
  • Ensure all testing and diagnostic assessment instruments, tools and treatment plans have been reviewed, adapted where possible and are culturally appropriate for use among Indigenous children
  • Ensure that testing conditions for assessments are consistent with the child’s most natural learning environment including home assessments
  • Determine individualized intervention goals and establish strategies and techniques to facilitate child development and further education plans
  • Conduct individual or group therapy session with the children
  • Provide clinical and education information at an appropriate level to school personnel and parents/caregivers that would assist them in developing a greater understanding of their child’s functioning
  • Provide services in person (1 week per month) and via teleconferencing and with the use of video/web technology
  • Acts as a member of the interdisciplinary team and participate in case conferences including IPRC meetings
  • Work closely with the Learning Resource Team at Eenchokay Birchstick School and other treatment providers on interventions
  • Liaise with community agencies
  • Participate in the development of the PAHS program, forms, guidelines, procedures and policies as it relates to the provision of psychological services
  • Identify education needs of staff and parents/caregivers and assist in the development and delivery of training workshops and training tools
  • Attend professional development opportunities to support the position and disseminate knowledge to other PAHS team members
  • Ensure that proper case records, assessment reports and statistical records and all other pertinent data to each case is maintained and adhere to confidentiality guidelines
  • Be available for other duties as identified in the ongoing development of the PAHS program.
  • Work under the policies of the Pikangikum Education Authority

Qualifications:

  • Experience in delivery of psychological services to children and youth in a school setting
  • A doctoral degree in Psychology and Certificate of Registration with the College of Psychologist of Ontario/Manitoba with declared competence in Clinical Psychology or School Psychology with children and adolescents.
  • In-depth knowledge of legislation, codes and regulations as they pertain to the delivery of psychological services, diagnosis and individual education plans, and privacy and confidentiality
  • Good knowledge of the impact of pediatric conditions that can adversely affect learning and development
  • Be able to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills as well as strong independent/team working skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize time, establish and meet deadlines, and take initiative to solve complex problems in collaboration with colleagues, teaching staff, school administrators and paraprofessional staff.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to communicate with children, parents/caregivers and other professionals
  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural skills to work in a First Nations environment
  • Knowledge of Jordan’s Principle federal programming and services covered.
  • Strong technical/computer skills.

* The PEA offers a competitive compensation and benefits package based on qualifications and experience. Salary range is $82,000-$105,000 annually

Also required:

At time of hire a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check within 6 months of date of hire.

Candidate must be in good standing, abide and registered with College of Psychologist of Manitoba/Ontario

Possess a Valid class 5 driver’s license required
