Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Electrical Foreman/Estimator
with a strong field background to join our team. In this hybrid role, you will transition your hands-on electrical expertise into an office- and site-based position. You will own the pre-construction phase: conducting site visits, generating accurate residential and light commercial estimates, procuring materials, and coordinating logistics to ensure seamless project execution. This position does not require tools on-site.

Key Responsibilities1. Estimating & Site Assessment (approx. 50%)

  • Site Inspections: Conduct physical walkthroughs of residential homes and small commercial properties to assess job scope, structural layout, and potential installation obstacles.
  • Material Takeoffs: Analyze blueprints, architectural drawings, or site notes to create precise material and labour takeoffs.
  • Bid Generation: Formulate competitive, accurate, and profitable cost estimates using digital estimating tools or spreadsheets.
  • Client Relations: Act as a technical advisor to homeowners and small business clients, explaining scopes of work and presenting final proposals.

2. Project Coordination & Material Procurement (approx. 50%)

  • Supply Chain Management: Source materials, negotiate pricing with local electrical wholesalers, issue Purchase Orders (POs), and manage inventory.
  • Just-in-Time Logistics: Coordinate material deliveries to align perfectly with project start dates, minimizing field downtime.
  • Resource Scheduling: Assist in mapping out crew schedules and assigning field technicians to specific jobs based on project scope.
  • Change Management: Evaluate, price, and document project change orders as field conditions or client needs evolve.

Qualifications & SkillsRequired:

  • Trade Credential: Journeyman Electrician certification (Red Seal) with significant hands-on field experience.
  • Industry Knowledge: Deep, up-to-date understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) as it applies to residential and light commercial installations.
  • Estimating Experience: Proven track record of estimating residential renovations, custom homes, service upgrades, and small commercial fit-ups.
  • Logistical Competence: Strong organizational skills with experience managing vendor relations, purchase orders, and project material timelines.
  • Mobility: Valid NS Driver’s License with a clean abstract for frequent travel to local site visits.

Preferred:

  • Proficiency with digital takeoff and estimating software or modern cloud-based job management platforms
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel for cost-tracking sheet maintenance.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary based on estimating and project coordination experience.
  • Company vehicle or mileage allowance for all site-visit travel.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits package.
  • Paid time off and statutory holidays.
  • A professional office environment that respects your field experience.

Pay: $60,000.00-$100,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Company car
  • Dental care
  • Employee assistance program
  • Extended health care
  • Life insurance
  • On-site parking
  • Paid time off
  • RRSP match
  • Vision care

Education:

  • AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)

Experience:

  • Red Seal Electrician: 5 years (required)

Licence/Certification:

  • Red Seal Certificate (required)

Work Location: In person
