Overview
B.G. Selfloading Ltd. is a full-phase independent logging company headquartered in Vanderhoof, BC. We specialize in custom logging services for a variety of clients throughout the Vanderhoof and Fort St. James forest districts. Our reputation for exceptional customer service is built on honesty, integrity, efficiency, and a strong commitment to safety and productivity.

We are seeking a skilled, reliable Button Top Loader Operator to join our harvest crew. The ideal candidate can consistently and safely handle 15–20 loads per day while maintaining organized log sorts and supporting efficient truck turnaround in a fast-paced logging environment.

Position Summary

  • Location: Vanderhoof / Fort St. James area, BC (camp accommodations provided when required)
  • Employment Type: Full-time
  • Compensation: $35.00 – $45.00 per hour (commensurate with experience and proven productivity)
  • Schedule: Approximately 60 hours per week; extended shifts and overtime common during peak operations
  • Benefits: Extended health care, dental, vision, RRSP matching, on-site parking, camp accommodations when needed

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently operate a button top loader to load logging trucks with 15–20 loads per day.
  • Plan and maintain organized management of log sorts and landing areas.
  • Communicate clearly with truck drivers regarding loading sequences, arrival times, and sort requirements.
  • Perform daily pre- and post-shift inspections, routine maintenance, and basic repairs (e.g., greasing, changing teeth/hoses, minor hydraulic work).
  • Pile brush and assist with general landing cleanup as needed.
  • Troubleshoot minor mechanical issues and report major concerns promptly to the maintenance team.
  • Complete accurate safety documentation, equipment logs, and electronic timesheets via Site Docs.
  • Strictly follow all company safety policies, WorkSafeBC regulations, and site-specific requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with the harvest crew, supervisors, and drivers to meet daily production targets.
  • Participate in safety meetings and contribute to a positive, safety-first team culture.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of proven experience loading logging trucks with a button top loader (required).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform daily maintenance and basic repairs.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence (required); Class 1 is an asset.
  • Familiarity with logging operations in the Vanderhoof / Fort St. James districts preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely and productively in remote outdoor conditions.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily outdoors in varying weather and rugged terrain.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, heavy machinery, and remote camp living (accommodations provided Mon–Fri when required).

  • Personal protective equipment required at all times per company and WorkSafeBC standards.
