Production Graphic Designer & Prepress Technician

Overview

Savage Emblems is a specialty patches and emblems company where we manufacture unique decoration processes for apparel. We're a growing company looking for enthusiastic energetic individuals who can contribute to the company's growth and success.

We're a proudly Canadian company and celebrates it's 4th year in business.

We are seeking a detail-oriented Production Graphic Designer & Prepress Technician responsible for preparing, validating, and executing artwork for custom patch and transfer production. This is not a “creative-only” role but rather meticulous attention to detail, working accurately and efficiently to meet strict deadlines.

The company maintains a very robust order management system where production queue and daily duties are specified. These tasks must be completed in a timely manner and updated upon completion.

Key Responsibilities

Prepress & File Preparation

  • Validate all incoming customer artwork for production readiness (vector format, outlined text, proper scaling)
  • Clean, rebuild, or vectorize artwork where required to meet production standards
  • Create accurate digital mockups and proofs for client approval
  • Generate production-ready files including:
  • Print & cut files
  • Laser etching files
  • Ensure files are optimized for efficiency, consistency, and minimal production error

Colour Management

  • Monitor and verify colour accuracy across all printed outputs
  • Perform colour matching using rip software when required
  • Identify and correct inconsistencies before production

Order & Workflow Management

  • Use the order management system to:
  • Upload and manage digital proofs
  • Track job progress
  • Update statuses at each stage of completion
  • Maintain strict adherence to timelines for proofs, pre-production samples, and final production files
  • Flag issues early, do not pass problems downstream

Production Support

  • Operate and maintain equipment when required:
  • Dye-sublimation printers (including nozzle checks and ink management)
  • Laser cutting/etching machines
  • Heat press equipment
  • Assist in emblem production during high-volume periods

Quality Control

  • Inspect outputs for defects, inaccuracies, or inconsistencies
  • Ensure only production-ready, defect-free items move to application or shipping
  • Maintain internal quality standards, no shortcuts

Inventory Awareness

  • Monitor raw material usage (fabrics, films, inks, etc.)
  • Notify management proactively for reordering and material prep

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Adobe Illustrator (Advanced) – non-negotiable (file setup, pathing, vector cleanup, production layouts)
  • Strong understanding of prepress and production workflows
  • High attention to detail and error detection
  • Solid computer literacy and ability to learn internal systems quickly
  • Clear and direct communication skills
  • Strong organization and time management
  • Ability to handle repetitive tasks without losing accuracy

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00-$26.00 per hour
