POSITION SUMMARY:
The Counsellor - CACCBA provides addiction counselling, psychoeducation, case management, and recovery
support to relatives participating in SIHLRC programs. This role contributes evidence-informed, trauma-informed,
and culturally respectful counselling services within a multidisciplinary care model. The position supports
therapeutic continuity across weekday, weekend, and evening coverage blocks.
Applicants must demonstrate clear alignment with SIHLRC’s vision, mission, values, and recovery-oriented
approach, including Siksikaitsitapi teachings, Blackfoot cultural values, trauma-informed practice, harm reduction,
and Recovery-Oriented Systems of Care (ROSC)
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties include but are not limited to:
1. Conduct addiction-focused counselling, assessment, and case management for relatives.
2. Deliver psychoeducation on substance use, relapse prevention, recovery planning, and coping strategies.
3. Maintain timely clinical documentation, progress notes, and case coordination records.
4. Participate in treatment planning, case conferencing, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
5. Support relatives’ engagement in recovery planning using strengths-based and trauma-informed practice.
6. Coordinate with cultural, medical, and recovery staff to support integrated care.
- Knowledge of addiction counselling, relapse prevention, and recovery planning.
- Skill in active listening, motivational interviewing, and clinical documentation.
- Ability to work within trauma-informed, culturally respectful, and recovery-oriented practice.
- Strong collaboration skills across interdisciplinary teams.
- Ability to support varied coverage blocks, including evening and staggered weekend schedules.
Education and Experience
• Current CACC or equivalent addiction counselling credential, plus a relevant bachelor-level education or
- Minimum three years of experience in addiction counselling, substance use treatment, or recovery services.
- Experience with case documentation, psychoeducation, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
First Aid/CPR certification, or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe.
Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check prior to employment.
Other:
Requires general knowledge of the Siksika Nation culture and some ability to communicate in the Siksika language.
