THIS POSITION WORKS ON SITE IN MARKDALE, ONTARIO

Job Summary

Experienced, creative, and hands-on Packaging Design & Development Manager that brings exciting new products to life. From first concept through launch, this role plays a key leadership position in ensuring our packaging delights customers, performs flawlessly on the production line, and reflects Chapman’s standards of excellence.

This role is central to driving packaging innovation and enabling seamless new product launches through close collaboration with Design Agencies, R&D, Marketing, Sales, and Manufacturing.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • Lead end-to-end packaging design and development, from concept ideation through commercialization and launch
  • Drive packaging innovation that supports new product development, brand differentiation, and operational efficiency
  • Develop and implement sustainable packaging strategies aligned with business, cost, and environmental goals
  • Partner cross-functionally with Research and Development, Sales, Marketing, Production, Procurement, and external suppliers
  • Establish and maintain packaging standards, specifications, and best practices across the organization
  • Own departmental planning, resourcing, budgeting, costing, and workload distribution
  • Track deliverables, timelines, and performance, providing clear reporting to stakeholders
  • Lead, coach, and develop the packaging team, including training, performance management, and capability building

Position Requirements

  • Proven professional graphic design experience with a strong focus on retail packaging, including concept development and execution for in-store and online environments
  • High proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), with a solid understanding of pre-press workflows, production files, and packaging production standards
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver packaging solutions that balance brand alignment, sustainability & functionality, and commercial performance
  • Experience designing within brand, retailer, and regulatory requirements, including compliance content, and Canadian & US regulatory standards
  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and readiness of final artwork, including 3D prototypes and press-ready files
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, Design, or a related field
  • 3–5 years of experience in packaging
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to keep the product portfolio up to date across evolving SKUs and launches
  • A collaborative mindset, with proven success working cross-functionally through collaboration with Sales, Marketing, Production, and external partners
  • High level of maturity and professionalism, paired with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a hands-on approach

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of digital and 3D design software, including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and 3D modeling tools
  • 3+ years of experience with demonstrated success in packaging design, graphic design, or a related role
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex, detail-oriented projects while meeting strict timelines and launch deadlines
  • Strong understanding of typography, colour theory, and branding, with the ability to translate brand strategy into effective packaging design
  • French is an asset
