Position Summary:

The Credit Supervisor reports directly to the Financial Controller and is responsible for overseeing the national accounts receivable and collections function, ensuring timely payment of customer accounts while maintaining strong customer relationships. This role manages credit risk, monitors account performance, resolves complex collection issues, and enforces company credit policies across Canada. The Credit Supervisor also leads and supports a team of two employees, providing guidance, performance management, and training to achieve collection targets, reduce bad debt exposure, and optimize cash flow while supporting business growth.

Key Accountabilities:

1. Credit and Collections Management - Oversee the national accounts receivable portfolio, ensuring timely collection of outstanding balances, minimizing overdue accounts and bad debt exposure, and maintaining strong cash flow performance.

2. Credit Risk Assessment and Policy Compliance - Evaluate customer creditworthiness, establish and monitor credit limits, manage high-risk accounts, and ensure consistent application of company credit policies and procedures across Canada.

3. Team Leadership and Performance Management – Supervise and coach the credit team, setting performance expectations, monitoring results, and fostering a customer-focused, results-driven work environment.

Major Responsibilities

  • Manage the national accounts receivable portfolio, ensuring timely collection of outstanding customer balances and achievement of collection targets.
  • Monitor aging reports and proactively address delinquent accounts to minimize overdue receivables and bad debt exposure.
  • Review and approve customer credit applications, establish appropriate credit limits, and assess ongoing credit risk.
  • Investigate and resolve complex account disputes, payment issues, and collection escalations in collaboration with sales.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce credit and collection policies, procedures, and best practices across the organization.
  • Prepare and analyze accounts receivable, collection, and credit risk reports, providing recommendations to management on trends and potential risks.
  • Lead, coach, and supervise credit team, including performance management, training, workload distribution, and professional development.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with customers while balancing collection objectives and customer service standards.
  • Collaborate with sales teams throughout Canada to support business growth while managing credit risk effectively.
  • Support month-end reporting, audit requirements, bad debt reserve reviews, and legal collection activities when required.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in credit, collections, accounts receivable, or credit risk management, preferably within the construction, building materials, manufacturing, or distribution industry.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience, with demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and manage employee performance.
  • Strong knowledge of credit and collection practices, financial statement analysis, credit risk assessment, accounts receivable management, and relevant commercial credit laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and ERP Systems, preference to experience with SAP 4/Hana
  • Professional designation such as Certified Credit Professional (CCP) through the Credit Institute of Canada is considered an asset.
  • Bilingualism in English and French would be considered a strong asset.
