Compensation: $20.00 – $25.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.

SMS Security is a growing security services company headquartered in Toronto, proudly serving multi-residential condominium communities across the Greater Toronto Area. We provide security guard services, security system installation and servicing, mobile patrol, and parking enforcement. As we continue to grow, we are looking for motivated individuals who want to build a career in the low-voltage and security industry.

The Role

We are seeking a Low-Voltage Technician to join our field team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow their career in security systems, access control, alarms, and door systems. You will work alongside experienced technicians, assisting with installations, projects, maintenance, and troubleshooting while developing valuable technical skills.

What You'll Do

Door Systems & Access Control

  • Assist with the installation and servicing of automatic door operators, maglocks, electric strikes, and exit devices
  • Support access control installations, including card readers, door contacts, and request-to-exit devices
  • Assist with troubleshooting basic door hardware and low-voltage issues
  • Assist with handling door systems integration with access control and alarm systems

Alarm Systems

  • Assist with installation and servicing of intrusion alarm systems
  • Support device testing and troubleshooting
  • Perform inspections and basic system verification
  • Assist with alarm programming and commissioning procedures

CCTV & Security Systems

  • Assist with installation of cameras, NVRs, DVRs, and related equipment
  • Support camera configuration and testing
  • Assist with maintaining and organizing equipment and installation materials

Cabling & Installation

  • Run, terminate, label, and test low-voltage cabling
  • Assist with conduit installation and cable routing
  • Maintain clean and professional job sites
  • Follow company installation standards and safety procedures

Documentation

  • Complete service reports and daily work logs
  • Document completed work and materials used
  • Assist with work closeout documentation

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience in low-voltage, security, electrical, telecommunications, or related fields.
  • College diploma or trade-related education
  • Strong willingness to learn and develop technical skills
  • Basic hand and power tool experience
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Professional communication and customer service skills
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to lift equipment and work on ladders when required
  • Comfortable working in residential and commercial environments

Nice to Have

  • Experience with access control systems
  • Experience with CCTV camera installations
  • Basic networking knowledge (IP addresses, PoE switches, routers)
  • Low-voltage, electrical, or construction experience
  • Working at Heights certification
  • WHMIS certification
