Full job description

The Project Manager will participate in sales activities, manage customer relationships, and oversee customer projects from inception to completion. Responsibilities include reading and proofing engineering drawings, preparing cost estimates and proposals, coordinating with engineering and production teams, tracking project timelines and budgets, and ensuring compliance with industry codes. The role also involves identifying sales opportunities and providing excellent customer service to ensure client satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Assure estimates are realistic and based on industry standard units, with transparency to drive competitive project performance
  • Provide input, development, analysis for items related to the change management program
  • Manage cost estimating activities for contract change orders and contract estimates
  • Responsible for deployment of standard practices, procedures and templates that will result in consistent, reproducible, scalable methodology for governance and lifecycle management of projects
  • Motivate and manage staff within the estimating team to ensure all members of the team understand the importance of their contribution towards achieving the department’s objectives
  • Maintain quality and accuracy of output, checking that estimates and drawings produced meet both materials and design requirements
  • Study and understand the contract documents of each project before, after estimating to determine areas, including provisions of the general or special conditions, that may be ambiguous or present problems or result in unforeseen costs
  • Prepare thorough autopsy analysis when all projects are complete to identify true cost and margin of the completed project
  • Develop, implement, and maintain estimating tools for business partners as needed
  • Modify (if required) project controls report template for client and present on re-occurring basis (Safety, Quality, Schedule and Cost)
  • Perform site visits to assess project status and identify any issues or concerns associated with Safety, Quality, Schedule and Cost
  • Liaise with client on an as needed basis

Experience, Qualifications & Attributes

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is preferred
  • 5 - 10 years’ experience in customer relations and project management
  • Proven ability to manage projects, timelines, and budgets effectively, and familiarity with cost estimation and proposal preparation
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
  • Technical acumen with experience coordinating cross-functional teams such as engineering, sales and estimating and production
  • Proficiency with business software tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, project management and engineering design software such as Compress
  • Proven ability to read and comprehend engineering design drawings
  • Technical knowledge in mechanical engineering principles
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to effectively build relationships with clients and cross-functional teams
  • Experience working in a unionized shop environment
